Regulatory Lawyer (Vice President)
Location: Glasgow (preferred) / London
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Regulatory Lawyer to join the UK Corporate & Institutional Banking legal team of a leading international financial institution. This role can be based in Glasgow or London, with a preference for Glasgow, and offers the chance to work at the heart of a dynamic, global business.
The Role
You will join a specialist Legal Regulatory team providing high-quality, non-contentious financial services regulatory advice across a broad range of business lines. The team plays a key role in supporting strategic initiatives, new product development, and ongoing business activities from a regulatory perspective.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising on complex, non-contentious UK and European financial services regulatory matters
- Supporting regulatory implementation projects from early-stage analysis through to execution
- Advising on the UK regulated perimeter and new business activities
- Reviewing and contributing to Transaction Approval Committees (TACs) and New Activity Committees (NACs)
- Drafting and updating documentation to reflect regulatory requirements (e.g. Terms of business, onboarding materials)
- Contributing to regulatory watch processes, including impact assessments and horizon scanning
- Providing clear, commercially focused advice to business stakeholders and senior management
- Delivering training on key regulatory topics and contributing to internal “know-how” resources
- Managing relationships with internal stakeholders and external counsel where required
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members
This is a highly visible role with significant interaction across legal, compliance, and front-office teams.
About You
- Qualified lawyer in England & Wales (or equivalent) with strong experience in non-contentious financial services regulatory law
- In-depth knowledge of key UK and European regulations (e.g. MiFID II, EMIR, PSD2, SFTR, FSMA, FCA/PRA Handbook, and ESG-related regulation)
- Experience advising on regulatory change and implementation projects within a financial institution or leading law firm
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex regulatory frameworks into practical business advice
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- A collaborative approach, with experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues
