    Job description

    Education Lawyer

    £51,356 – £57,403 | Permanent | Hybrid (40% office-based)

Make a real impact in education law, within a supportive and well-structured local authority team.

Coventry City Council is looking to appoint an experienced Education Lawyer to join its in-house legal service, with a focus on SEND and education-related matters. This is a substantive role offering meaningful casework, sensible hybrid working, and the chance to develop within a collaborative team.

You’ll advise and represent the Council on a broad range of education law matters, including SEND appeals. SEND Tribunals are currently fully remote, and external counsel is instructed on the most complex or high-risk cases. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for:

    • Managing a caseload of education law matters
    • Represent the council in SEND Tribunal appeals
    • Representing the Council at hearings, meetings and panels
    • Providing clear, pragmatic legal advice to client departments
    • Working closely with colleagues across legal and education services

    Why this role?

    • Manageable hybrid working: 40% office attendance
    • Supportive team structure: with clear supervision and peer support
    • Flexibility: open to discussions around working patterns
    • Development and progression: opportunities to broaden experience
    • Accessible location: offices next to Coventry railway station

    About you

    • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive
    • Experience in education law, including SEND Tribunal work
    • Confidence representing clients and meeting deadlines
    • Strong drafting, negotiation and advisory skills
    • A collaborative approach and the ability to adapt

    Interested?

If you’re an education lawyer looking for high-quality work, flexibility, and a genuinely supportive environment, this is well worth a conversation. Apply now or message for a confidential discussion.
