Liturgische en rituele studies werken in het team van de leerstoelgroep Praktische Theologie – Worship & Formation.

Wie zoeken wij?

Een UD Liturgische en rituele studies met expertise op het gebied van empirisch onderzoek en goed ontwikkelde hermeneutische competenties. U beoefent het vak in het spoor van de ontwerpende en/of creatieve Liturgische en rituele studies in verbinding met actuele praktijken. U beweegt zich gemakkelijk in de hele breedte van de PKN en bent in staat om studenten met uiteenlopende kerkelijke achtergronden en geloofsvisies enthousiast te maken voor de Praktische theologie en de Liturgische en rituele studies in het bijzonder. U bent in staat om verbanden te leggen met andere theologische disciplines en zich te engageren in onderwijs met docenten uit andere leerstoelgroepen. Ook op het gebied van onderzoek bent u in staat om vanuit de vakinhoudelijke expertise impulsen te leveren voor een integrale theologiebeoefening in relatie tot bronnen, praktijken en overtuigingen. U kunt onderzoek opzetten en vormgeven in samenwerking met kerkelijk en maatschappelijk partners.

Wat gaat u doen?

U verricht onderzoek en verzorgt en ontwikkelt onderwijs op het gebied van de Liturgische en rituele studies in alle opleidingen van de PThU, waarbij voorlopig een zwaartepunt ligt op het onderwijs in de bachelor en de premaster. Op termijn is ook inzet in het masteronderwijs en op postacademisch niveau (nascholing predikanten) wenselijk. U draagt ook bij aan werkgroepen en commissies binnen de PThU en aan de kerkelijke en maatschappelijke dienstverlening.

Wat vragen wij?

• is gepromoveerd in het veld van de Liturgische en rituele studies, wat onder andere blijkt uit een dissertatie en bij voorkeur vervolgpublicaties in peer reviewed journals of bundels van gerenommeerde uitgeverijen;
• heeft een visie op onderwijs en onderzoek in Liturgische en rituele studies tegen de achtergrond van maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen en het (Nederlandse/West-Europese) religieuze landschap;
• is een bevlogen docent met ervaring in het geven van onderwijs in het veld van de Liturgische en rituele studies;
• heeft ervaring of affiniteit met de doelgroep van het onderwijs, veelal protestantse studenten;
• is in bezit van een Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs of is bereid de BKO in de eerste twee jaar na aanstelling te behalen;
• heeft de vaardigheid om onderzoek op te zetten en uit te voeren in nauwe verbinding met stakeholders en heeft daardoor maatschappelijk en kerkelijk impact;
• is bereid om externe onderzoeksfinanciering te verwerven;
• is een teamspeler die bijdraagt aan een cultuur van samenwerking;
• beheerst de Nederlandse taal op voldoende niveau voor het verzorgen van onderwijs of is bereid zich zo nodig in het eerste jaar hier (verder) in te bekwamen;
• is in staat en bereid onderwijs te geven in het Nederlands en in het Engels als het onderwijsprogramma daarom vraagt;
• is betitelend lid van en heeft tenminste 4 jaar predikantservaring in een protestantse kerk, bij voorkeur in de Protestantse Kerk in Nederland.

Wat bieden wij?

• Een aanstelling met een functieomvang van 0,8 fte (waarbinnen 55% voor onderwijs, 35% voor onderzoek en 10% voor overige taken) met een beoogde startdatum van 1 november 2026. De UD start met een tijdelijk dienstverband, dat bij gebleken geschiktheid zal worden voortgezet voor onbepaalde tijd.
• Goede arbeidsvoorwaarden met ruime aandacht voor flexibiliteit en (persoonlijke) ontwikkeling.
• Functie en inschaling afhankelijk van relevante kennis en ervaring, in schaal 11 of 12, (minimaal € 4728 op basis van volledig werktijd). De vakantietoeslag is 8% en de eindejaarsuitkering 8,3%. Er is een ruime bijdrage aan de ABP-pensioenregeling. Er is een goede vergoeding voor reiskosten woon-werkverkeer en de mogelijkheid tot opbouw spaarverlof en fiscale uitruil van arbeidsvoorwaarden.

Procedure

De eerste ronde sollicitatiegesprekken vindt plaats op 28 mei 2026. Een tweede ronde vindt plaats op 16 juni 2026. Het verzorgen van een minicollege is onderdeel van de tweede ronde. In de procedure is opgenomen dat aan de Synode van de Protestantse Kerk Nederland om instemming op de benoeming wordt gevraagd. Een assessment kan onderdeel uitmaken van de sollicitatieprocedure.

Assistant Professor (0.8 FTE) of Liturgical and Ritual Studies Whom are we looking for?

A lecturer in Liturgical and Ritual Studies with expertise in empirical research and well-developed hermeneutical skills. You practise your discipline within the framework of design-oriented and/or creative Liturgical and Ritual Studies in connection with current practices. You are at ease across the entire spectrum of the PKN and can inspire students from diverse church backgrounds and faith perspectives to take an interest in Practical Theology and Liturgical and Ritual Studies in particular. You are able to draw connections with other theological disciplines and collaborate on teaching with lecturers from other departments. In the field of research, too, you are able to use your subject-specific expertise to provide impetus for an integrated approach to theology in relation to sources, practices and beliefs. You can initiate and design research in collaboration with church and social partners.

What will you be doing?

The PThU is a university with a Christian ethos. One of its core tasks is the training of ministers for the Protestant Church in the Netherlands. You will conduct research and deliver and develop teaching in the field of Liturgical and Ritual Studies across all PThU programmes, with the initial focus on teaching at Bachelor’s and Pre-Master’s level. In the long term, involvement in Master’s-level teaching and at postgraduate level (continuing professional development for ministers) is also desirable. You will also contribute to working groups and committees within the PThU and to church and social services.

What are we looking for?

• holds a PhD in the field of Liturgical and Ritual Studies, as evidenced by a dissertation and, preferably, subsequent publications in peer-reviewed journals or collections from reputable publishers;
• has a vision for teaching and research in Liturgical and Ritual Studies against the backdrop of social developments and the (Dutch/Western European) religious landscape;
• is an enthusiastic lecturer with experience in teaching in the field of Liturgical and Ritual Studies;
• has experience of or an affinity with the target audience for the course, predominantly Protestant students;
• holds a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or is willing to obtain the BKO within the first two years of appointment;
• can design and conduct research in close collaboration with stakeholders, thereby generating social and ecclesiastical impact;
• is willing to secure external research funding;
• is a team player who contributes to a culture of collaboration;
• has a sufficient command of the Dutch language to deliver teaching or is willing to improve their proficiency in this area during the first year if necessary;
• is able and willing to teach in Dutch and in English if the curriculum so requires;
• is a professing member of and has at least 4 years’ pastoral experience in a Protestant church, preferably in the Protestant Church in the Netherlands.

What do we offer?

• A position with a workload of 0.8 FTE (comprising 55% teaching, 35% research and 10% other duties), with an intended start date of 1 November 2026. The Assistant Professor will start on a fixed-term contract, which will be converted to a permanent contract subject to a satisfactory performance review.
• Attractive terms of employment with a strong focus on flexibility and (personal) development.
• Position and salary scale depending on relevant knowledge and experience, in scale 11 or 12, (minimum €4,728, based on full-time working hours). The holiday allowance is 8% and the end-of-year bonus 8.3%. There is a generous contribution to the ABP pension scheme. There is a good allowance for commuting expenses and the option to accrue saved leave and tax-efficient exchange of employment conditions.
