Position

The Capital Management department within Aegon supports the execution of the company's global financial strategy with specific accountability for the capital strategy. This includes pro-actively influencing financial decision making, risk decision making, and strategy setting with focus on capital.

The role of the Capital Management team is to manage the balance sheet of the Holding companies and monitoring the capital position including adherence to the capital management policy of the business units. This requires working closely with the business units whereby ongoing communication and alignment with the units is essential. Furthermore, the team works together with other disciplines within the Corporate Center such as Financial Reporting & Operations, Group Treasury, Group Risk, Investor Relations, and Corporate Development. In addition, it is also the role of the Capital Management team to continue the development of Aegon\'s Capital Management Framework and further increase transparency on capital generation, capital allocation and return on capital: all aimed towards increasing the efficiency of capital usage throughout the group. Based on this framework, the team provides senior management and the board with recommendations on optimal capital structure, capital allocation strategies and related financing options through use of forecasting models and capital consumption analytics. This position reports into the Head of Capital Management.

The purpose of this role is to provide a broad variety of mostly quantitative analytical support as part of the Capital Management function. By creating forward-looking tools and using information from several financial and risk data systems, this function plays an important role in analyzing various aspects of key interest to capital management, related to both the funding side of capital management as well as the capital allocation side. Furthermore, it involves actively steering on remittances from business units to the Group. This role will provide important decision support in various forms to help manage strategic and ad-hoc capitalization aspects of the country units and the Holding.

Result areas:

  • Perform quantitative analysis in various areas relevant to capital management, such as WACC/COC/COE analysis, assessments on the volatility drivers of Country Unit and Group capitalization, analysis to maintain efficient levels financial leverage and various other analytical support needed in our aim to enhance transparency and efficiency of capital usage in the Aegon Group.
  • Contribute significantly to the further development of and adherence to Aegon\'s Capital Framework: increased transparency around capital generation, capital allocation and return on capital allocations.
  • Evaluate and identify capital threats and initiatives in operating units and proactively engage with them on planned remittances and the development and execution of (capital) management actions.
  • Balance sheet management of the Holding companies, in particular Cash Capital at Holding and Financial Leverage.
  • Provide various support activities as needed within the broader Financial Planning & Analysis department.
  • Provide insights/challenges for monthly/quarterly business review from a capital perspective.
  • Taking the lead in forward-looking capital and dividend assessments and drafting dividend proposals.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis/capital input in projects (management actions/M&A).
Profile

As (Senior) Financial Analyst / Capital Manager you will show personal accountability and ownership. You will work closely together with colleagues from the Corporate Center and in the business units, most notably with Finance, Risk, Actuarial, Investor Relations and Business Control. As a result of this, you are able to communicate, connect, interact, and influence other people at all levels within the Aegon organization.

Furthermore, this role requires the following knowledge and/or experience

  • Master\'s degree in economics, econometrics, statistics or related economic/quantitative field is required, accompanied by at least 7-10 years of relevant working experience. CFA, AAG, VBA, ASA/FSA, FRM, and/or equivalent designations are strongly desired but not required.
  • Extensive experience in the insurance industry, knowledge of regulatory frameworks and thorough understanding of financial markets
  • Proven experience in (setting up) financial models that are used in decision making processes.
  • Experience in assessing and analyzing business performance, challenging business strategies, ability to present and interpret the results of the assessment, ability to conduct complex financial research autonomously.
  • Results driven with a pro-active approach on new tasks and self-discipline to manage own responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge and experience is desired in the broader financial industry aspects, in particular as it relates to cash flow modeling, capital management frameworks, investment analysis, economic value creation and financial reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills: providing information, listening, and most importantly, convincing (fluent in English is a requirement).
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills
