The PositionWe are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic M&A Analyst to join the M&A team in our Rotterdam office. As an M&A Analyst, you will be an integral member of the M&A team, responsible for developing financial models and preparing high-quality presentations to support business case assessments and transaction execution. You will work closely with the M&A Directors, Business Development, and commercial teams, collaborating across the organization on various strategic initiatives. In this role, you will also support the execution of our ambitious M&A pipeline, contributing to both ongoing and future acquisition opportunities. Over time, you will have the opportunity to independently lead smaller M&A projects.
Your Key Responsibilities- Develop complex and robust financial models to support M&A and business development activities
- Perform valuation analyses using various methodologies
- Conduct market and competitive analyses to support deal origination and project evaluation
- Develop business/investment cases including market context, strategic rationale, risk assessment and mitigation strategies, and structuring considerations
- Create presentations and pitch materials for the Business Development Committee, Executive Board, Supervisory Board, and external stakeholders
- Support the preparation and delivery of client and internal presentations
- Assist in coordinating financial, legal, tax, and operational due diligence with internal teams and external advisors
- Support M&A Directors in project execution throughout the full transaction lifecycle—from assessment to closing
- Gradually take ownership of smaller M&A projects and manage them independently
- 2–5 years of experience in M&A, investment banking, corporate finance, or strategic consulting
- A Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience at an investment bank, Big Four firm, strategy consultancy, or corporate M&A department
- A strong command of financial modelling and valuation techniques
- Excellent PowerPoint skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal (proficiency in Dutch, Swedish or German is considered a plus)
- An affinity with the energy, oil, fuel trading, or derivatives sectors is a significant advantage
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into sharp insights
- A true team player who never closes a deal alone, yet can work independently in an organized, structured manner
- Curious and fast learner, able to quickly understand new business models, markets, and technologies
- Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Result-oriented with the ability to dive into details while maintaining a high-level strategic perspective
- Strong sense of ownership and proactive management of responsibilities and opportunities
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex projects to business-minded stakeholders and challenging existing perspectives when necessary
