As a firmware designer your main responsibility is to create and modify firmware designs for programmable logic, for example FPGA’s, including the hardware/software interface of the machine. Your tasks include specifying and documenting requirements, implementing and simulating VHDL code as well as testing the firmware in test setups and in the machine module. As a firmware designer you are the first point of contact for VHDL-related questions . You will work closely with designers of all disciplines (software, hardware, (electro)-mechanical).

This is what you bring to the teamYou know how to maintain good contact with colleagues, suppliers and customers and know what is going on with the various parties. To get things clear, you are able to listen well and ask questions. You have a broad interest and experience in the technology of firmware but also hardware and software for embedded systems design. You are able to make well-founded design choices together with your colleagues. You will make use of best practices and industry standards.
Furthermore:
Bachelor's degree or master's degree in electrical engineering.
At least 5 years of industrial experience in VHDL for FPGA design (VHDL RTL, synthesis, compilation and timing closure).
Experience with FPGA design flow (Altera Quartus/Xilinx ISE) and functional & gate level simulation using Mentor Modelsim and/or Questa Sim.
Experience with FPGA debugging tools (ILA ChipScope, Signaltap) and lab equipment.
Familiar with HW development tools (e.g. Spice, Matlab) Familiar with programming languages (e.g. C/C++/#, Java, Python);
Affinity to work and discuss with hardware and software engineers on a technical level.
Team player, analytical, pragmatic, creative and pro-active.
Good communication skills and proficient in English.
Good in time management and setting priorities.
