Role DescriptionAs an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer, you will perform technical engineering work across production, maintenance, capital projects, R&D, and process improvements. The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compliant, and cost‑effective execution of engineering solutions. You may act as Lead E&I Engineer on assigned projects and support commissioningand troubleshooting activities.
Responsibilities- Perform electrical and instrumentation engineering activities using established engineering principles and technologies.
- Develop analytical and conceptual designs and support them with clear technical justifications.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on local standards, procedures, and best practices related to electrical and instrumentation engineering.
- Prepare, evaluate, and review technical specifications, including quality assurance, process safety, and preventive maintenance requirements.
- Deliver complete, verified, approved, and well‑documented E&I designs in collaboration with engineering contractors.
- Ensure compliance withstandards and applicable external regulations and codes.
- Manage engineering activities to meet project schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.
- Provide leadership as Lead E&I Engineer within project teams and when working with alliance engineering contractors.
- Prepare and review cost estimates throughout different project phases.
- Support commissioning, start‑up, and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery and engineering effectiveness.
- Communicate engineering solutions clearly to internal stakeholders such as Maintenance, Operations, and Manufacturing Technology.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or equivalent.
- Practical industrial experience, preferably in petrochemical, chemical, or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of international codes and standards, including ATEX (NEN-EN-IEC 60079), EMC Directive, Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, NEN-EN-IEC 60204, NEN 1010, NEN 3140, and NEN 3840.
- Strong affinity with instrumentation within the chemical industry.
- Affinity with electrical and control system design.
- Knowledge of power electronics and variable frequency drives.
- Experience with functional and logical diagrams and interlock matrices.
- Knowledge of process automation, safety systems, and programming.
- Familiarity with safety instrumentation systems (SIL/SIS) according to NEN-EN-IEC 61508 / 61511.
- Understanding of the full project lifecycle, including basic and detailed engineering, procurement, construction, checkout, and commissioning.
- Ability to work with integrated project schedules and identify task sequences and critical paths.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proactive, flexible, and highly motivated self‑starter with a strong customer focus.
- Fluency in Dutch and English.
