The RoleMeridia is now looking for a hands on Fractional CPO. The role is 8 days a month, with at least 1 day each week. The role can be remote within +/- 2hrs of the CET time zone or based in our Amsterdam office. If based remotely the CPO should be available to travel to Amsterdam as required (likely no more than once a quarter).
This senior position is accountable for leading a small product team, which consists of a Lead Product Manager, a Senior Product Manager (who will need to be recruited) and a Product Designer. The day to day for the fractional CPO will focus on coaching direct reports, being a sparring partner for the CEO on product strategy decisions and reviewing important initiatives crafted by Product & Engineering. There will also be strategic projects where the Fractional CPO will provide input.
ResponsibilitiesThe Fractional CPO has the following areas of work and responsibilities:
Strategy- Own the articulation of the Product Vision
- Review and refine the Product Strategy every 3 to 6 months to ensure it remains aligned with the company strategy and leverages up‑to‑date customer, market and competitor insight
- Provide strategic input on which markets to play, deepening investment in existing proposition vs building new propositions, target markets, the sequence of new propositions, what to stop doing, pricing and org design. Part of that will be making yourself available as a sparring partner to the CEO through a limited amount of async communication (voice notes / messages) during the week, within the agreed 8‑days/month commitment.
- Lead and proactively coach the Product team composed of 2 product managers and a product designer. That should include a weekly 1:1 with both Product Managers. The Product Designer currently reports to the Lead Product Manager.
- The second product manager will need to be recruited as a remote hire in Indonesia. Meridia has a strong track record hiring English‑speaking back end engineers and data scientists in Indonesia (through a fruitful partnership with a local recruitment agency) so we’re confident this can work.
- Provide direction to the product managers on the narrative for each quarterly roadmap planning cycle.
- Review the draft roadmap initiatives and provide feedback.
- Review and provide feedback on the draft roadmap and sign off the final version alongside the CEO.
- Note: The roadmap process (where initiatives are crafted, t‑shirt sized and scored for impact & effort) is well established so that’s unlikely to need any immediate attention. The expectation is that the Lead PM and Senior PM will craft the initiatives and lead the t‑shirt sizing and scoring sessions before compiling the draft roadmap based on the fractional CPO’s direction.
- Coach the Product team through the execution of high risk or strategic initiatives:
- This will likely entail a mixture of:
- Reviewing UI/UX designs in Figma or via Loom videos
- Commenting on Notion pages or Miro boards covering scoping or design choices
- Responding to key threads on Mattermost (our instant messaging tool), with an emphasis on batching asks and async collaboration
- Collaborate with Commercial, Engineering, Methodology and R&D departments to align the product strategy and roadmap and with Meridia’s broader company strategy.
- At least 10+ years of Product experience, including 6+ years in a leadership role.
- 5+ years B2B SaaS experience
- Product leadership experience in start ups or early stage scale ups
- Demonstrable experience of coaching teams to high performance
- Managing products with a front‑end
- Managing API products
- Domain experience in the sustainability sector, agricultural commodities, deforestation or land use change
- Geospatial experience or experience building products with a strong geospatial component
- Experience building Enterprise products
- Building and maintaining component libraries and design systems
- Strong leadership, coaching and people management abilities.
- Able to craft and evolve portfolio product strategies in a nimble scale‑up environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging senior clients and stakeholders.
- Analytical and strategic thinker, able to make strategic decisions quickly to keep teams unblocked
- Proficiency with building and interpreting dashboard on product analytics platforms (Segment + Mixpanel is our stack)
- Comfortable the detail of Figma designs for high risk or highly strategic features
- Openminded, collaborative and low ego
- Thrives in a fast paced environment
- Entrepreneurial mindset with resilience to build and scale new propositions
- Comfortable in a lean business environment
