Front Office Manager @ Via Amsterdam

As Front Office Manager at Via Amsterdam, you’ll lead a young, dynamic, and experienced team within our Rooms department. Your key responsibility is to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our vibrant Front Office, where we welcome and check in/out up to 1,000 guests daily. Our guests are as diverse as the city itself — from backpackers and families to couples celebrating anniversaries, stag and hen parties, school groups, and more.

You’ll oversee both the day and night reception teams, supported by two Front Office Supervisors and a Night Manager. In total, the team comprises 12–15 dedicated Via employees — we pride ourselves on not outsourcing staff. Additionally, the Culture & Events Hosts also report into you, making you a key player in connecting the guest experience with the vibrant energy and social atmosphere that defines Via. You’ll also work closely with the Executive Housekeeper and benefit from hands-on support from the Operations Manager.

Although you’ll have guidance and support, this is far from an entry-level position. With 200 rooms and 1,000 beds spread across two buildings — in various room categories — the scale and pace demand strong leadership, adaptability, and operational excellence. At Via, our department heads are hands-on leaders. They set the tone by example, clearly communicate the company vision, and actively engage their teams to contribute to our mission. A day in the life of the Front Office Manager includes:

  • Supporting the team during peak hours with check-ins, check-outs, and guest inquiries.

  • Training new team members and updating the team on changes in procedures, new upsell opportunities, and upcoming events.

  • Ensuring operational procedures and standards are current and consistently followed.

  • Handling administrative tasks such as shift closings, stock counts, report reviews, and month-end reporting.

  • Organizing team briefings and monthly Front Office meetings.

  • Conducting performance reviews, including providing constructive feedback and setting goals.

  • Overseeing recruitment activities, including hiring and onboarding new team members.

You’ll be a great fit if you bring a few of the below with you:

  • You possess great people skills. You understand that our team members are our biggest assets. You know how to motivate people and enjoy sharing knowledge and teaching your team members new skills.

  • Accuracy and eye for detail.  

  • You know how to keep overview and stay calm, even when there are multiple events going on at the same time.

  • You have 1-2 years working experience in a similar role.

  • You enjoy working with a young, dynamic and optimistic team. 

  • Hotel experience is requirement for the role. For example, as Front Office Manager in a similar, but smaller property, or as Assistant Front Office Manager in a larger hotel (500+ beds).

  • Extensive knowledge of Property Management Systems. We work with MEWS and it would be a benefit if you have worked with this system.

  • Fluent in English, both verbal and in writing. It would be great if you speak Dutch, but it is not a strong requirement.
