How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Manager to join a flagship redevelopment project at Manchester Town Hall, one of the UK's most significant heritage buildings.

Forming part of a landmark £600m+ redevelopment programme, this is a major refurbishment of a Grade I listed building, offering the opportunity to work on a prestigious, high-profile scheme within a Tier 1 construction environment.

The successful candidate will take ownership of a substantial section of the redevelopment, overseeing a package of works valued at approximately £30m–£40m and managing a team of Construction Managers to drive the works through to successful completion.

Reporting directly to the overall Project Director, you will be responsible for coordinating site delivery, managing programme performance and ensuring the works are completed safely, to the required quality standards and in line with project objectives.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Lead the delivery of a £30m–£40m refurbishment and redevelopment package.

    * Manage and coordinate a team of Construction Managers responsible for day-to-day site delivery.

    * Drive programme performance, ensuring key milestones and completion targets are achieved.

    * Coordinate subcontractors, consultants and key project stakeholders.

    * Maintain high standards of health and safety, quality assurance and site management.

    * Monitor progress, identify potential risks and implement solutions to maintain delivery.

    * Report progress, challenges and key deliverables directly to the Project Director.

    * Ensure works are delivered in accordance with project specifications and the requirements of a complex heritage refurbishment.

    Candidate Requirements

    * Proven experience as a Project Manager on major construction projects.

    * A strong background working for a Tier 1 main contractor.

    * Experience delivering large-scale refurbishment, redevelopment or complex existing-building projects.

    * Demonstrable experience managing Construction Managers and large site teams.

    * Strong programme management, leadership and stakeholder management skills.

    * Valid SMSTS, CSCS Black Card and First Aid certificates.

    * Asbestos Awareness and Temporary Works training are desirable.

    * The ability to take ownership of a high-value package and drive delivery within a complex project environment.

    What's on Offer?

    * A flagship project at Manchester Town Hall, forming part of a £600m+ redevelopment.

    * Responsibility for a substantial £30m–£40m package of works.

    * Approximately 18 months of freelance work.

    * Immediate start available.

    * A handsome, competitive day rate for the right candidate.

    * Monday to Friday working pattern, following usual site hours.

If you're an experienced Project Manager with a strong Tier 1 background and a proven track record delivering major refurbishment projects, we'd like to hear from you
