How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are working in partnership with an ambitious and growing civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team on a permanent basis, based in Norwich.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking business with a strong focus on sustainable growth, commercial performance and the development of its people. With a diverse portfolio of projects across the East Anglia region, the successful candidate will play a key role in driving commercial success, managing risk and maximising profitability across multiple projects.

Reporting directly to the Divisional Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial and contractual performance of several projects, providing leadership and support to project commercial teams while working closely with operational colleagues and senior management.

    Key Responsibilities

Oversee the commercial and contractual management of multiple projects, ensuring successful delivery against financial and operational objectives.

Lead, develop and support project Quantity Surveyors and wider commercial teams, promoting a collaborative and high-performing culture.

Drive sustainable and profitable growth by proactively managing commercial risks, identifying opportunities and minimising contractual disputes.

Take responsibility for forecasting and delivering project profits and margins, ensuring accurate cost control and financial reporting.

Produce and review commercial reports, forecasts and cost information, providing clear updates to senior management.

Manage contractual obligations, notices, change control and variations to protect the commercial position of the business.

Ensure subcontract orders, payments and procurement activities are managed effectively and in line with company procedures.

Support tendering and work-winning activities, including the identification and assessment of commercial risks and opportunities.

    About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have:

Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Managing Quantity Surveyor or equivalent commercial management role within civil engineering, infrastructure or a related construction environment.

Strong commercial and contractual knowledge, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.

A track record of delivering commercial targets, maintaining margins and managing project financial performance.

Experience leading, mentoring and developing commercial teams.

The ability to identify, assess and manage commercial risk while maximising opportunities.

Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
