How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Opportunity

We are seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to grow sales for an established foodservice wholesale business supplying independent takeaways, restaurants, cafés and other food businesses across the North West.

This is a hands-on role combining new business development, account management and online sales growth. You will be responsible for winning new customers, developing long-term relationships and increasing regular, repeat orders.

    Key Responsibilities

    New Business Development

    *

Identify and win new foodservice customers within approximately 20 miles of Bolton. Generate leads through cold calling, face-to-face visits, networking, referrals and market research.

    *

Present the product range, identify competitor opportunities and convert prospects into active customers.

    Sales Growth & Account Management

    * Develop new accounts into regular, repeat-ordering customers. Increase customer spend, cross-sell products and grow existing accounts.

    *

Maintain customer relationships, monitor purchasing patterns and resolve issues. Reactivate dormant accounts and address declining sales.

    Online Sales Development

    *

Increase active customers and recurring sales through the online ordering platform.

    *

Demonstrate online ordering, promote relevant offers and encourage regular website orders. Identify barriers to online adoption and focus on generating measurable online revenue.

    Sales Performance & Commercial Development

    *

Monitor sales growth, customer acquisition, retention, repeat orders and average customer spend. Manage the sales pipeline and improve customer onboarding and follow-up processes.

    *

Identify market trends, competitor activity and new business opportunities.

    *

Work with management and marketing to turn promotions into measurable sales results.

    About You

The successful candidate will be commercially focused, proactive and confident in developing business through direct customer engagement.

    You will ideally have:

    *

Proven experience in business development, field sales or B2B account management, with 3+ years preferred.

    *

Confidence in cold calling, prospecting and meeting business owners face-to-face.

    *

Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills. A target-driven approach with excellent organisation and follow-up.

    *

Experience using CRM systems, managing sales pipelines and analysing sales performance.

    *

The ability to work independently and take ownership of commercial results.

    *

Experience in foodservice, wholesale, FMCG, hospitality supply or cash & carry is advantageous.

    Essential Requirements

    *

    Full UK driving licence.

    *

Right to work in the UK.

    *

Willingness to travel throughout the designated territory and conduct customer visits as required.

    *

Flexibility to attend evening customer visits when necessary.

    What We Offer

    *

    Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

    *

    Performance-related bonus scheme

    *

    Employee discounts, Career progression opportunities.

    How Success Will Be Measured

Performance will be assessed against agreed commercial targets, including new customer acquisition, incremental sales growth, repeat ordering, existing account development, online revenue, customer retention and reactivation of dormant accounts.

The focus is on achieving profitable, sustainable sales growth and building long-term customer relationships.
