How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Are you mechanically minded, reliable, hard-working and looking for an opportunity to learn a skilled trade with excellent long-term career prospects? Do you enjoy practical, hands-on work, solving problems and learning new skills?

Our client, a growing specialist in fire sprinkler systems, is looking for a Trainee Service & Installations Engineer to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a career in the fire protection industry, with full training, industry qualifications and a structured progression route from Trainee to Junior Engineer within the first 12 months, with opportunities to progress further into senior engineering roles.

Working alongside an experienced Lead Commissioning & Servicing Engineer, you'll support the servicing, inspection, testing and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems across residential and commercial properties. You'll also assist with fault finding, repairs and remedial works on CPVC plastic pipework, whilst receiving training in sprinkler installations to develop your wider technical knowledge.

Previous experience in fire protection isn't required. We're particularly interested in candidates from practical backgrounds such as construction, manufacturing, production or the Armed Forces who can demonstrate a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude and a professional approach to their work.

    Job Description

Working alongside the Lead Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

Assisting with the routine servicing, inspection, testing and maintenance of residential and commercial fire sprinkler systems.

Supporting fault finding, troubleshooting and remedial repairs, including work on CPVC plastic pipework, fittings and components.

Learning how sprinkler systems operate, identifying potential faults and developing practical problem-solving skills.

Gaining hands-on installation experience to develop a thorough understanding of sprinkler systems and their components.

Maintaining accurate service reports, inspection records and compliance documentation using company systems and software.

Preparing equipment, organising materials and ensuring all necessary tools and paperwork are available for scheduled works.

Travelling to customer sites across the North West and West Yorkshire, following relevant health and safety procedures and site requirements.

Developing an understanding of industry standards, compliance requirements and best practice through practical experience and formal training.

    Person Specification

We're looking for someone with the right attitude, aptitude and commitment to build a long-term career. Suitable candidates will demonstrate:

Excellent reliability, punctuality and self-discipline, with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

A practical, mechanically minded approach, with an interest in understanding how things work and solving technical problems.

Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and compliance paperwork.

A polite, respectful and professional manner, with good communication skills and a smart, presentable appearance.

A positive attitude towards training, following instructions and working under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Confidence using mobile technology, digital systems and basic administration software.

Previous experience in a practical or hands-on environment, such as construction, engineering, manufacturing, production or the Armed Forces, would be advantageous.

A full UK driving licence, access to your own vehicle and willingness to travel throughout the North West and West Yorkshire.

    Salary, Benefits & Career Progression

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing business that is committed to investing in its people and developing skilled engineers for the future.

You'll receive a starting salary of £25-28,000, alongside:

Full on-the-job training and mentoring from an experienced Lead Engineer.

Funded industry qualifications and structured technical development.

Progression from Trainee to Junior Engineer within 12 months, with further opportunities to become a Senior Engineer.

Excellent long-term earning potential as your skills, qualifications and responsibilities develop.

Mileage expenses for travel to and from customer sites.

    Private medical insurance.

    Company pension scheme.

The opportunity to build a skilled, specialist career in a growing industry.

If you're looking for more than just another job and want to develop a recognised trade with genuine career progression, we'd love to hear from you. You don't need previous sprinkler experience, but you will need to be committed, dependable and ready to put the work in to become a skilled engineer.
