How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Our client is a leading independent building services consultancy providing specialist mechanical and electrical design, technical consultancy and engineering support across the UK. Working with clients, main contractors, landlords and professional teams, the business delivers practical, innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions across a diverse range of projects.

With expertise spanning MEP design, technical surveys, building performance, specialist services coordination and commissioning management, PJA offers the opportunity to work within a growing consultancy where technical quality, collaboration and client service are central to its approach.

    The Opportunity

The business is looking to appoint an experienced M&E CAD Technician to join its Manchester-based team.

The successful candidate will play an important role in producing high-quality mechanical and electrical building services drawings, supporting engineers throughout the design process and helping deliver coordinated, accurate technical drawing packages.

Working closely with mechanical and electrical design engineers, you will contribute to projects across a variety of sectors, taking designs from initial concepts through to detailed technical and construction documentation. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated technician looking to develop their technical expertise within an independent and growing MEP consultancy.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Produce detailed 2D CAD drawings for mechanical and electrical building services installations.

    * Working knowledge of Revit MEP and keen to develop further.

    * Develop and amend M&E layouts, schematics, plantroom arrangements, containment layouts and coordinated services drawings.

    * Support the delivery of mechanical designs, including HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling and public health systems.

    * Assist with electrical drawings covering lighting, small power, distribution, containment and specialist systems.

    * Interpret engineers' sketches, specifications, design calculations and project requirements to produce accurate technical drawings.

    * Coordinate building services layouts with architectural, structural and other engineering disciplines.

    * Identify potential clashes and coordination issues, working with the wider design team to develop practical solutions.

    * Assist in preparing drawing packages for planning, tender, technical design and construction stages.

    * Maintain drawing registers, revisions and project documentation in accordance with company procedures.

    * Liaise with engineers, contractors and other project stakeholders to ensure drawings meet project requirements and deadlines.

    * Contribute to maintaining high standards of drawing quality, accuracy and consistency across all projects.

    Candidate Requirements

    * Previous experience working as an M&E CAD Technician, Building Services CAD Technician or in a similar building services design role.

    * Proficiency in AutoCAD, with experience producing mechanical and electrical building services drawings.

    * A good understanding of building services systems and their coordination within the built environment.

    * Ability to interpret engineering information and translate design concepts into clear, accurate technical drawings.

    * Experience working alongside mechanical and electrical design engineers within a consultancy or contractor environment.

    * Good understanding of drawing standards, revision control and technical documentation.

    * Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.

    * A proactive approach, with good communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Experience with Revit and BIM coordination would be advantageous, although candidates with strong AutoCAD skills and a willingness to develop their Revit capabilities will also be considered.

    The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a growing MEP consultancy offering exposure to varied building services projects and the chance to work closely with experienced engineers and technical consultants.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their technical capabilities, broaden their knowledge of mechanical and electrical design, and contribute directly to the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.
