How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are seeking a Stock Control Manager to join the Operations team at Conquip Engineering Group, based at our Alton head office. This is a pivotal role within the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of stock accuracy, fleet management and operational processes, ensuring our equipment is available, effectively utilised, and ready to meet customer demand.

    About Us

Supporting major construction and infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally, we have built our reputation on engineering excellence, innovation and delivering outstanding service. Our success depends on having the right equipment, in the right place, at the right time – and that’s where you come in.

    The Role

As Stock Control Manager, you will play a central role in ensuring our stock and hire fleet are accurately managed, efficiently utilised and aligned with business needs. Working closely with Operations, Purchasing and Finance, you will oversee stock movements, inventory accuracy, fleet additions and asset utilisation, while identifying opportunities to improve productivity, reduce costs and strengthen operational controls.

You will also provide leadership and support to the Stock Control Administrator, ensuring clear priorities, accountability and consistent performance. This is a hands-on management position suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and making a measurable difference.

    Key Responsibilities

    Stock Control & Inventory Management

Take ownership of stock accuracy, inventory records and effective stock control procedures.
Oversee weekly stock takes, investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
Monitor stock movements, damaged equipment and asset records to ensure complete traceability.
Collaborate with Purchasing and Finance to maintain accurate valuations and support informed purchasing decisions.
Identify opportunities to minimise unnecessary stockholding, reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
Support internal and external audits, ensuring records and processes remain accurate and compliant.

    Hire Fleet & Asset Management

Manage additions to the hire fleet, ensuring equipment is correctly recorded, allocated and available.
Work closely with depot teams and refurbishment scheduling to maximise equipment availability.
Monitor fleet utilisation, capacity and equipment distribution across locations.
Provide accurate data to support fleet investment, replacement and purchasing decisions.
Coordinate the management and disposal of obsolete or surplus equipment.
Identify opportunities to improve asset productivity and maximise commercial returns.

    Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Analyse stock performance, fleet utilisation and operational trends.
Produce meaningful reports and recommendations to support management decisions.
Identify recurring issues, inefficiencies and opportunities for process improvement.
Drive greater consistency, accountability and control across stock management activities.
Support the wider Operations team with accurate, reliable data to enhance decision-making.

    Team Leadership

Manage, support and develop the Stock Control Administrator.
Set clear priorities, responsibilities and performance expectations.
Ensure stock administration, reporting and operational deadlines are consistently met.
Promote a proactive, accountable and solutions-focused working environment.
    What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a confident, organised and commercially aware individual who can balance day-to-day operational demands with a focus on improving processes and performance.

    Essential:

Proven experience in stock control, inventory management, asset management or a similar operational role.
Strong organisational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail.
Demonstrable ability to manage stock accuracy, investigate discrepancies and implement improvements.
Confidence working with stock data, reporting and operational performance metrics.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
    A proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.
Confidence in providing direction, support and accountability within a team environment.
    Desirable:

Experience within construction, plant hire, equipment rental, manufacturing or engineering sectors.
Previous responsibility for overseeing hire fleets, asset utilisation or multi-site inventory.
Experience supervising or managing a small team.
Familiarity with stock control, ERP or hire management systems.
Track record of implementing improvements to stock accuracy, processes and operational efficiency.
