Engineering Stores People. We know you’ve got a delivery waiting, three engineers asking for parts and a stocktake looming, so we’ll keep this organised.
My client is growing, and their Engineering Stores Manager needs an extra pair of capable hands. You’ll receive engineering components, spares and consumables, check them against purchase orders and delivery notes, book them into the stock system and put everything in the right location. Simple? Yes. Important? Absolutely.
Will I be issuing parts to engineers and production? Yes. Picking against works orders and internal requests? Yes. Carrying out stock counts and helping with stocktakes? Yes. Keeping the stores tidy, organised and correctly labelled? You’re getting the idea.
Will accuracy matter? Very much. You’ll maintain stock records, monitor minimum and reorder levels, flag shortages to the Stores Manager or Purchasing, and investigate discrepancies. There may also be returns, obsolete stock and the occasional supplier discrepancy to sort out. In other words, if the system says six and the shelf says five, you’ll want to know why.
Do I need stores experience? Ideally, yes—from engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, automotive, aerospace, machinery or industrial equipment. Will experience with engineering components and spares help? Definitely. Goods-in, goods-out and stock control experience? Even better.
Will I need to know an ERP, MRP or stock control system? Experience would be useful. Will I need to recognise part numbers and enter them accurately? Absolutely—nearly right is still wrong when an engineer is waiting. Basic Excel and computer skills? Yes.
Are they friendly? Yes. Are they busy? Yes. Will I be supporting an Engineering Stores Manager who knows the job? Yes. Is this a chance to become an important part of an engineering operation? Oh yes.
