How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Vertical Recruitment is working with an established multidisciplinary construction consultancy to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to its specialist Data Centre team.

The role will support the delivery of data centre developments across the EMEA region, with involvement throughout both pre-construction and construction.

Working alongside an experienced team of Quantity Surveyors and project professionals, you'll be involved in the commercial management of technically complex developments, supporting projects from early cost planning and procurement through to construction and completion.

Based from the consultancy's London office, the position offers international project exposure, a collaborative working environment and clear opportunities for professional development.

    The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll provide cost management and commercial support across a portfolio of data centre projects, working closely with clients, project teams and contractors throughout the development and construction lifecycle.

    Responsibilities will include:

    * Preparing and managing cost plans, estimates and project budgets throughout pre-construction.

    * Supporting procurement strategies, tender documentation, tender analysis and contractor appointments.

    * Providing commercial advice throughout design development, including value engineering and cost optimisation.

    * Managing project cost reporting, cash flow forecasts and commercial risk.

    * Reviewing contractor applications, variations and change control during construction.

    * Monitoring project expenditure against approved budgets and reporting on cost performance.

    * Supporting contract administration, commercial negotiations and final account agreements.

    * Working closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams across EMEA projects.

    * Supporting the successful commercial delivery of projects from inception through to completion.

    About You

We're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in both pre-contract and post-contract cost management, ideally gained within a construction consultancy or client-side environment.

Previous data centre experience would be advantageous, although candidates with relevant experience across other large-scale or technically complex construction projects may also be considered.

    Ideally, you'll bring:

    * Experience operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level, with the ability to manage commissions and commercial responsibilities independently.

    * Strong pre-contract and post-contract cost management experience.

    * Experience in cost planning, procurement, tendering, contract administration and construction-stage cost control.

    * Previous exposure to MEP packages would be beneficial, particularly within large-scale or technically complex construction projects.

    * Knowledge of JCT, NEC and/or FIDIC forms of contract, with exposure to bespoke or international contracts beneficial.

    * Strong commercial awareness, including forecasting, change management, cost reporting and risk management.

    * Experience working with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.

    * A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.

    * MRICS qualification or a willingness to work towards chartership.

    What's on Offer?

    * Hybrid working: London office Tuesday to Thursday, with Mondays and Fridays working from home.

    * International exposure: Supporting data centre developments across the EMEA region.

    * Full project lifecycle: Involvement in both pre-construction and construction-stage cost management.

    * MRICS support: Support towards chartership and continued professional development.

    * Collaborative environment: Working alongside experienced commercial and multidisciplinary project teams.

    * Career progression: Clear scope for further responsibility and progression within the business.

    The Opportunity

This is an opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to develop further experience within the international data centre sector, supporting technically complex developments across both pre-construction and construction.

The role offers a combination of project responsibility, international exposure and professional development within an established consultancy.
