How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Are you a Supervising Panel Engineer, or progressing towards panel status, and ready for your next challenge in reservoir safety?

Join Thames Water as a Senior Reservoir Engineer and bring your expertise to a diverse reservoir portfolio where your technical judgement will directly influence safety, investment and long-term resilience.

This is an opportunity to broaden your experience, take on greater technical influence and help shape how we manage and protect some of our most critical water infrastructure.

What you'll be doing as a Senior Reservoir Engineer

Lead inspections and condition assessments of raw water reservoirs, service reservoirs and associated infrastructure.
Support statutory undertaker duties, including Section 10 and Section 12 inspections and the delivery of statutory recommendations.
Identify, assess and manage reservoir safety risks and deterioration mechanisms that could affect compliance, resilience or public safety.
Use your technical expertise to help shape priorities and influence longer-term investment decisions across our reservoir portfolio.
Produce clear technical reports, recommendations and engineering guidance that support operational and investment decisions.
Provide trusted reservoir safety advice to the Reservoir Safety Manager and stakeholders across Operations, Engineering and Asset Management.
Review designs, drawings, technical reports and submissions, providing robust engineering assurance and constructive technical challenge.
Collaborate with Operations and Engineering teams, regulators, consultants and contractors to ensure reservoir safety and compliance requirements are met.
Bring your experience and ideas to help drive continuous improvement in reservoir safety, asset management and governance across Thames Water.
Location: Hybrid – Clearwater Court - 2-3 days a week in office or onsite

Hours: 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

What should you bring to the role?

We’re looking for a reservoir professional who wants to build on their existing water industry expertise and take the next step in their career. You’ll bring strong technical judgement alongside the confidence to influence decisions, challenge constructively and build effective relationships across the business.
A degree in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent reservoir or dam-related discipline.
Supervising Panel Engineer status under the Reservoirs Act 1975, or strong progress towards panel application.
Proven experience in reservoir engineering, inspections, civil asset management or dam safety.
Experience inspecting civil engineering structures and producing high-quality technical reports, recommendations and assurance outputs.
A sound understanding of reservoir safety legislation, compliance requirements, risk management and industry best practice.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess technical risk and recommend practical engineering solutions.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to provide clear technical advice and influence decisions at different levels of an organisation.
    What's in it for you?

If you’ve built your reservoir safety career elsewhere in the water industry and are wondering “why Thames Water?”, this role offers the chance to take that experience into a position with variety, technical challenge and genuine influence.

Competitive salary of up to £65,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
26 days annual leave, increasing to 30 days with length of service, plus bank holidays.
    Generous Pension Scheme through AON.
