How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Principal Landscape Architect

    Location: Manchester or Sheffield (Hybrid)

    Salary: £50,000+ DOE

Are you an experienced Landscape Architect ready to take the next step in your career? Do you enjoy leading projects, building client relationships and mentoring the next generation of landscape professionals?

We're working with a growing multidisciplinary consultancy looking to appoint a Principal Landscape Architect to join its team, with opportunities available in Manchester or Sheffield.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, Chartered Landscape Architect to take ownership of a varied project portfolio, lead multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the continued growth of an established consultancy.

    The Role

As Principal Landscape Architect, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality landscape design, landscape planning and landscape management services across a diverse range of sectors, including residential, commercial, infrastructure and public realm developments.

You'll combine strong technical expertise with project leadership, client management and business development, helping to deliver successful projects from initial concept through to completion.

    Key responsibilities include:

Leading and managing landscape projects, including Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIAs) and supporting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
Managing multiple projects simultaneously, overseeing programmes, budgets, fees and financial performance.
Acting as a key point of contact for clients, planning authorities, statutory consultees and multidisciplinary project teams.
Preparing, reviewing and quality-assuring technical reports, assessments and project deliverables.
Applying your knowledge of GLVIA guidance and best practice to deliver robust, high-quality technical work.
Mentoring, supporting and developing junior colleagues, providing technical guidance and constructive feedback.
Preparing fee proposals and contributing to project bids and tenders.
Identifying opportunities to develop existing client relationships, secure new business and support the wider growth of the landscape team.

    About You

We're keen to hear from an experienced Landscape Architect who combines strong technical capability with commercial awareness and the confidence to lead projects and work directly with clients.

    You'll ideally have:

A degree in Landscape Architecture or a relevant discipline.
Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute (CMLI).
At least six years' relevant consultancy or professional experience, including post-chartership experience.
Experience delivering and coordinating LVIAs, EIAs or other landscape planning assessments.
A proven track record of project management, including financial and commercial responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of GLVIA guidance and landscape planning processes.
Experience using relevant design software, such as AutoCAD, Vectorworks and Adobe Creative Suite.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management and report-writing skills.
Experience mentoring colleagues and contributing to business development.

A postgraduate qualification, an established client network and experience winning new work would also be advantageous.

    What's on Offer?

Salary from £50,000, depending on experience.
Choice of Manchester or Sheffield as your base.
The opportunity to take on a senior role with genuine responsibility and influence.
A varied portfolio of projects across multiple sectors.
The chance to mentor and develop colleagues while helping shape the future of the landscape team.
An opportunity to contribute to client relationships, business growth and the development of the wider consultancy.
