How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Randstad is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor on behalf of a premier regional civil engineering main contractor in the Swindon area. This role can be tailored for either a competent QS looking to step up or an established Senior QS to take commercial ownership across major heavy earthworks, highways, and infrastructure schemes.

    The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will manage the commercial health of key civil engineering packages from inception through to final accounts. Your day-to-day will involve:

Contract Administration: Managing standard forms of civil engineering contracts (predominantly NEC3/NEC4), overseeing early warnings, compensation events, and variations.

Cost Control & Forecasting: Preparing monthly CVRs, cash flow forecasts, cost-to-complete reports, and commercial reconciliations.

Subcontractor Management: Procuring specialist supply chain partners, assessing monthly payment applications, and issuing formal payment notices.

Valuations & Final Accounts: Agreement of interim valuations with client commercial teams, tracking scope changes, and negotiating final accounts.

Risk & Value Management: Identifying commercial risks and value engineering opportunities to protect project margins and drive profitability.

    Essential Requirements

Civils Track Record: Proven experience as a QS or SQS within civil engineering main contracting, with strong exposure to heavy earthworks, highways, or groundworks packages.

Contractual Expertise: In-depth working knowledge and practical application of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 Option A or Option B).

Commercial Acumen: Strong background in CVR preparation, procurement, and managing subcontractor accounts from start to finish.

Qualifications: Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Civil Engineering.

Location & Mobility: Centrally located in or commutable to the Swindon region with a full UK driving licence.

We encourage and welcome applications from all sections of society and are more than happy to discuss reasonable adjustments and/or additional arrangements as required to support your application.
