How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Randstad is recruiting a Site Engineer on behalf of a leading regional civil engineering contractor to deliver major earthworks and highways infrastructure packages around the Swindon area. This is an exceptional freelance opportunity offering long-term stability on a key regional civil scheme.

    The Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take ownership of setting-out accuracy, technical QA, and daily engineering control across heavy earthworks and highways elements. Your day-to-day will involve:

Setting Out & Dimensional Control: Executing precise engineering control for major earthworks, cut/fill operations, drainage, access roads, and carriageway construction using modern GPS and total station equipment.

Volume Tracking & Surveying: Conducting accurate volumetric surveys, monitoring earth movement, and updating digital terrain models.

Technical QA & Inspections: Managing quality assurance through ITP sign-offs, as-built surveys, material approvals, and raising TQs to resolve design queries efficiently.

Site Supervision & Subcontractors: Monitoring daily subcontractor outputs, tracking progress against lookahead schedules, and maintaining precise site diaries.

HSEQ Compliance: Driving strict safety and environmental standards on site, ensuring full adherence to RAMS and ecological constraints.

    Essential Requirements

Highways & Earthworks Track Record: Proven experience as a Site Engineer on heavy civil engineering projects, specifically major earthworks, bulk excavation, and highways construction.

Equipment Proficiency: Hands-on experience with modern robotic total stations and GPS survey equipment (experience with machine control systems is a advantage).

Qualifications: Degree, HND, or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent construction qualification).

Site Credentials: Valid CSCS card and SMSTS or SSSTS.

Location & Mobility: Based in or commutable to the Swindon region with a full UK driving licence.

Randstad CPE values diversity and promotes equality. No terminology in this advert is intended to discriminate against any of the protected characteristics that fall under the Equality Act 2010. We encourage and welcome applications from all sections of society and are more than happy to discuss reasonable adjustments and/or additional arrangements as required to support your application.

Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
