How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Join Metro and Lead a High-Performing Export Operations Team

At Metro, we keep global supply chains moving. Powered by industry-leading technology and a people-first approach, we deliver air, ocean, road freight forwarding, supply chain management, logistics, and specialist services across a wide range of industries.

We're looking for a Transport Planner to join our growing Multimodal Transport team in Felixstowe. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with UK haulage and transport planning experience who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment and enjoys building strong relationships with customers, suppliers and operational teams.

Working closely with the Multimodal Transport Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating transport requirements across the business, ensuring service excellence, cost efficiency, and seamless delivery of customer requirements. As our transport operation continues to grow, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to process improvements and help shape the future of our multimodal transport offering.

    What You'll Be Doing

As a Transport Planner, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing haulage requirements across the business, ensuring all bookings are executed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in line with customer expectations. Work closely with internal departments, haulage providers, shipping lines and key stakeholders to maintain service levels, resolve operational challenges, and support the ongoing development of our transport operation.

    You'll also:

    · Plan and allocate haulage requirements across approved supplier networks.

    · Manage day-to-day transport bookings and ensure timely execution.

    · Act as a key point of contact for both internal teams and external partners.

    · Identify alternative transport solutions when challenges arise.

    · Balance service delivery requirements with cost control objectives.

    · Monitor supplier performance and support KPI reporting.

    What You’ll Bring

We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving operational environment and can confidently manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

    You'll ideally have:

    · Previous experience within UK haulage, transport planning or multimodal logistics.

    · Knowledge of FCL, LCL and warehousing operations.

    · Understanding of intermodal transport and UK port operations.

    · Strong geographical knowledge and container movement awareness.

    · Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.

    · Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships.

    Why Metro?

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK's leading independent logistics providers as part of a growing and ambitious business. As an Exports Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact, leading a high-performing team whilst supporting key customer relationships and driving operational excellence.

At Metro, we believe in empowering our people to take ownership, develop their careers and contribute to our continued success. In return, we offer a supportive environment where your experience, leadership and ambition are recognised and rewarded.

    · Discretionary bi-annual bonus – because your success drives ours.

    · Health & wellness perks – including gym discounts, retail offers, and more.

    · Health cash plan – supporting your wellbeing.

    · Octopus EV car scheme – drive electric, drive smart.

    · Free parking – no stress, no cost.

    · Respectful, inclusive culture – where your voice matters.

    · Training & development – grow with us, every step of the way.

    Plus, You’ll Enjoy:

    · Career Mobility & Growth – We actively promote from within and offer clear pathways to progress into senior roles or explore other departments.

    · Cross-Training Opportunities – Expand your skillset by working across different freight modes and supply chain functions.

    · Fast-Paced, High-Impact Work – Be part of a team that thrives on energy, agility, and delivering results under pressure.

    · Make a Global Impact – Help major international brands deliver on time, every time - your work keeps global supply chains moving.

    · Tech-Driven Efficiency – Work with industry-leading systems like Cargowise and MVT to streamline operations and reduce manual tasks.

Ready to Move Your Career Forward?

Join a team where your ideas, expertise and commitment will help drive operational excellence and support the continued growth of Metro's transport network
