How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Engineer – Residential Housebuilding

    About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an Engineer to join an established residential housebuilding business. This is an opportunity for someone with a background in civil engineering or technical design to play a key role in supporting residential developments from the early feasibility stages through to infrastructure delivery and adoption.

Working closely with the regional technical function, land and development teams, external consultants and site personnel, you will help ensure developments are technically viable, commercially sound and delivered in accordance with relevant regulations and industry standards.

The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent organisational skills and a keen eye for detail, alongside the ability to manage multiple priorities and build effective working relationships.

    Key Responsibilities

Support land and development teams with engineering input during site feasibility assessments, including preparing viability reports that reflect current regulatory and technical requirements.

Identify and appoint suitable external consultants, agreeing fees, scopes of work, project deliverables and timescales.

Coordinate consultant activity and manage the timely exchange of technical information to ensure project milestones and development programmes are achieved.

Assess the commercial implications of technical decisions relating to planning, architectural design, civil and structural engineering, ground conditions, remediation and utility infrastructure.

Support the procurement and establishment of site management companies, ensuring relevant procedures are followed and legal requirements associated with agreements are addressed.

Work collaboratively with internal departments, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors to secure Building Regulations and warranty approvals, as well as the discharge of planning and other statutory conditions.

Monitor technical performance information and contribute to the preparation of progress reports, KPI updates and management information.

Coordinate utility infrastructure requirements, including design submissions, quotations, new connections, diversions and associated agreements.

Manage the infrastructure adoption process, liaising with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to progress approvals and handovers.

Provide technical and engineering guidance to site teams and other internal departments throughout the development process.

Attend site meetings and lead technical discussions relating to the procurement, design and approval of site infrastructure.

    About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

A relevant qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline, or substantial practical experience in technical design within residential development.

An understanding of engineering requirements within the housebuilding sector, including the regulatory and legal frameworks governing technical design and construction.

Knowledge of relevant highway design standards and requirements for sewer adoption.

An understanding of Building Regulations and applicable British Standards.

    Experience using AutoCAD.

Strong technical knowledge, with an appreciation of the commercial and financial considerations involved in residential development.

An understanding of technical approval processes, including NHBC, LABC and Secured by Design (SBD) requirements.

Excellent planning, organisation and time-management skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

A flexible, adaptable approach and the ability to manage changing priorities.

Good numerical, analytical and written skills.

    What's on Offer?

26 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays.

    Company car or car allowance.

    Discretionary bonus scheme.

Holiday purchase and additional holiday purchase options.

    Company pension scheme.

    Private medical insurance.

    Health and wellbeing benefits.

    Life assurance.

    Employee share purchase scheme.

    Retail and high-street discounts.

Ongoing training and career development opportunities.

    Interested?

If you have experience in civil engineering or technical design within residential development and are looking for your next opportunity, we would be keen to hear from you.
