How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Whether you have worked in an SEN school, supported young people in mainstream education or gained relevant experience in another setting, this could be an excellent opportunity to develop your career in secondary education.

    Responsibilities

Provide tailored 1:1 support to secondary-aged students with varying special educational needs, helping them engage with lessons and achieve individual learning goals.
Deliver small-group interventions to reinforce classroom learning, develop key skills and encourage participation.
Support teachers during lessons by adapting activities and explaining instructions to students who require additional guidance.
Encourage students to develop independence, confidence and positive relationships with their peers.
Help maintain a structured, inclusive classroom environment where students feel supported and ready to learn.
Recognise when students may be struggling with learning, communication or emotional regulation and respond using appropriate support strategies.
Monitor student engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and the wider support team.
Promote positive behaviour through clear communication, encouragement and consistent expectations.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to support individual learning needs.
Follow school safeguarding procedures and contribute to a safe, respectful learning environment.

    Essential Candidate Requirements

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, or relevant transferable experience from education, youth work, care or similar environments.
An understanding of the challenges students with additional learning needs may face in a secondary school setting.
Confidence supporting students individually, in small groups and within the wider classroom.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people.
A patient, adaptable and proactive approach to supporting different learning styles and needs.
Ability to follow teacher guidance while using initiative appropriately when supporting students.
Commitment to working full-time in a long-term position, with an interest in a potential permanent opportunity.
An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.
Previous experience supporting students with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs would be beneficial, although applicants with broader SEN or relevant transferable experience are encouraged to apply.
