You don’t need to be a CCNA-level specialist. You do need solid practical networking experience and a willingness to get stuck in.
The networking side
The company’s engineers regularly bring new sites online. When they need support, you’re the escalation point. That means:
* Configuring routers and firewalls for new sites
* Setting up port forwarding and IP addressing securely, opening only what’s needed
* Troubleshooting connectivity and performance issues, both remotely and occasionally on site
* Making sure network setups meet the company’s security standards
* Escalating the really complex problems to a senior specialist in the team
The support side
It’s a small team, so you’ll also own day-to-day IT for 30–40 head office staff:
* Building and deploying laptops and mobile devices (Apple MDM, training provided)
* Onboarding and offboarding users in Microsoft 365 and Azure
* Handling everyday support requests, from Wi-Fi to printers
* Cabling, crimping and setting up new equipment
* Taking ownership of small projects, such as phone system rollouts and device refreshes
About you
* 3+ years in an IT support or network support role
* Strong practical knowledge of TCP/IP, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, NAT, VLANs, port forwarding and firewalls
* Hands-on with kit: patching, crimping and getting things working from scratch
* Security-conscious and detail-oriented
* A self-starter who’s happy to own a task, talk to people and see it through
* A full UK driving licence for occasional site visits
Bonus points for
* Network+, CCNA or similar
* Experience with Ubiquiti, Sophos, Fortinet, DrayTek or Meraki
* An MSP or field engineering background
* Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001 exposure
