How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Location: Milton Keynes - Hybrid working, minimum 3 days per week in the office, with occasional travel to site
Salary: £60,000-£73,000 per annum DOE + approximately £6,000 car allowance
    Benefits:

·Travel allowance paid at 33p per mile
·26 days annual leave plus bank holidays
    ·Hybrid working
·Long-term career development on a major infrastructure project

    Role Overview:

My client is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team working on the EKFB section of HS2, one of the UK's largest and most significant infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong main contractor background to take commercial responsibility for major infrastructure works, supporting the successful delivery of a complex civil engineering programme.

Working within the Milton Keynes office, you will be responsible for managing commercial activities across project packages, including subcontractor management, cost control, change management and commercial reporting. You will work closely with operational and project delivery teams to ensure commercial risks are effectively managed and project objectives are achieved.

The role requires someone with extensive experience working under NEC contracts, ideally NEC3, who is confident taking ownership of commercial responsibilities and operating with a high degree of independence.

The position offers hybrid working, with an expectation of three days per week in the Milton Keynes office, although additional office attendance may be required during the initial onboarding period. Occasional travel to project sites will also be necessary.

    Key Responsibilities:
·You will take commercial ownership of major infrastructure packages, managing costs, budgets, forecasts and commercial performance throughout project delivery.
·You will administer NEC contracts, manage commercial change and ensure compensation events and associated contractual obligations are effectively managed.
·You will oversee subcontractor packages, including procurement, valuations, payments, variations and final accounts.
·You will identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, providing accurate reporting and financial information to the wider project team.
·You will work closely with operational teams, project managers and other commercial professionals to support the successful delivery of the HS2 programme.
·You will support and provide guidance to junior members of the commercial team where required.

    Essential Requirements:
·Previous experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor delivering major infrastructure or civil engineering projects is essential.
·Candidates must have extensive experience working under NEC contracts, particularly NEC3.
·Proven experience managing subcontractor packages, commercial change, cost reporting and contractual administration.
·Strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage complex project packages with minimal supervision.
·Experience delivering major projects within sectors such as rail, highways, water, nuclear or other significant infrastructure environments.
·Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

    Desirable Requirements:
·Experience working on HS2 or other nationally significant infrastructure projects would be advantageous.
·Previous experience supporting or mentoring junior Quantity Surveyors.
·A relevant degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.

This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects, offering genuine commercial responsibility, hybrid working and long-term career development within a major civil engineering programme.
