How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Platform Engineering Manager

Fintech Scaleup | Fully Remote (UK) | Up to £115,000 + Bonus + Generous Benefits

Take ownership. Set the direction. Build the platform for scale.

We're working with an ambitious fintech scaleup looking for a Lead Platform Engineer / Platform Engineering Manager to take ownership of its cloud platform, lead a small team of talented engineers, and help shape the future of its technology.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants more than just another engineering role. You'll have the autonomy to influence architectural decisions, drive engineering best practices, and define how the platform evolves as the business continues to grow.

The role offers a genuine 50/50 split between hands-on engineering and technical leadership/people management, making it ideal for someone who enjoys staying close to the technology while developing a team and setting the wider technical direction.

    The Role

You'll lead a team of three platform engineers, taking responsibility for the reliability, security, scalability, and ongoing evolution of the cloud platform.

Working closely with engineering leadership and wider technology teams, you'll have the freedom to challenge existing approaches, introduce new ideas, and make decisions that have a meaningful impact on the business.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    * Technical Leadership: Own the platform engineering roadmap, setting the technical direction and ensuring the platform evolves in line with business needs.

    * Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three engineers, creating an environment that encourages collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.

    * Hands-on Engineering: Spend around 50% of your time designing, building, and improving cloud infrastructure, automation, and platform services.

    * Cloud Infrastructure: Drive the design and development of Azure-based infrastructure, making effective use of Azure services and cloud-native technologies.

    * Infrastructure as Code: Champion Terraform and automation to deliver consistent, repeatable, and scalable infrastructure.

    * Containerisation & Orchestration: Lead the adoption and evolution of container platforms using Kubernetes and/or Azure Container Apps.

    * CI/CD & Developer Experience: Improve deployment pipelines and engineering workflows using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, enabling teams to deliver software faster and more reliably.

    * Architecture & Engineering Standards: Establish and promote architectural patterns, infrastructure standards, and engineering best practices.

    * Cloud Security: Embed security into the platform through robust cloud security practices, governance, access controls, and secure-by-design principles.

    * Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve platform reliability, scalability, operational efficiency, and developer experience.

    What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with the confidence and ability to lead a team and influence technical decisions.

    You'll ideally bring:

    * Strong experience designing, building, and managing cloud infrastructure within Microsoft Azure.

    * A solid understanding of Azure services, cloud architecture, and modern cloud-native technologies.

    * Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.

    * Experience working with Kubernetes and/or Azure Container Apps.

    * Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.

    * An understanding of architectural patterns, platform design, and building systems that can scale with a growing business.

    * Experience implementing cloud security best practices.

    * Previous experience leading, mentoring, or managing engineers.

    * The ability to balance hands-on technical delivery with people leadership and strategic thinking.

    * A proactive, ownership-driven mindset, with the confidence to challenge the status quo and drive improvements.

We're particularly interested in people who enjoy solving complex technical problems, developing others, and having a real say in how technology is designed and delivered.

    Why Join?

This is an opportunity to step into a role where your ideas will genuinely matter.

You'll have the autonomy to shape the platform engineering function, influence architectural decisions, and help define the technology strategy as the business continues to scale.

    What's on offer:

    * Salary: Up to £115,000, depending on experience.

    * Bonus: Additional bonus opportunity.

    * Benefits: Generous benefits package.

    * Remote Working: Fully remote across the UK, with just one day per month in London.

    * Leadership: Direct leadership responsibility for a team of three engineers.

    * Technical Ownership: The opportunity to take ownership of the platform and influence its long-term direction.

    * Hands-on Impact: A genuine 50/50 split between engineering and leadership, without stepping away from the technology.

    * Autonomy: The freedom to make meaningful technical decisions, introduce improvements, and shape how the engineering function operates.

    Interested?

If you're an experienced Platform Engineer, Technical Lead, or Platform Engineering Manager looking for a role that combines hands-on engineering, team leadership, and genuine technical ownership, we'd love to hear from you.
