How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in commercial management, proven leadership experience and the ability to maximise financial performance across multiple projects or contracts.

    The Role

Reporting to senior operational leadership, you will take overall responsibility for the commercial and financial management of the division, leading a team of five Quantity Surveyors and working closely with operational managers, estimating teams, procurement and other key stakeholders.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Leading, managing and developing a team of five Quantity Surveyors.

Taking ownership of divisional commercial performance, profitability and financial reporting.

Maximising project margins through effective cost control, commercial reviews and identification of variations and additional revenue opportunities.

Overseeing contract administration, valuations, applications for payment, invoicing and cash collection.

Managing commercial risks, contractual obligations and potential disputes.

Monitoring monthly cost reports, forecasts, billings and financial projections.

Improving subcontract procurement, supply chain performance and buying gains.

Working with operational and estimating teams to identify commercial risks and opportunities at tender stage.

Ensuring accurate financial reporting and providing clear visibility of risks, opportunities and profitability to senior management.

Supporting the development of commercial processes, reporting standards and best practice across the division.

    The Candidate

To be considered, you will have:

Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or equivalent senior commercial management role within construction, building services, facilities management or a related contracting environment.

Experience managing and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors.

Strong commercial acumen and a track record of protecting and improving project or contract profitability.

Extensive knowledge of cost control, financial forecasting, valuations, variations, subcontract procurement and contract administration.

Experience managing commercial risk, contractual issues and client relationships.

The ability to interpret financial data, challenge performance and implement effective commercial controls.

Strong leadership, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

A proactive, commercially focused approach with the confidence to influence senior operational decision-making.

    The Package

Salary of £100,000+ per annum, depending on experience and suitability.

£10,000 flexible benefits allowance, which can be used for options such as car allowance or private healthcare.

    Company fuel card.

    3% employer pension contribution.

22 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with additional Christmas time off provided as a goodwill gesture.

Annual discretionary salary and bonus reviews.

    Equipment provided as required.

Working arrangements: This is a full-time, office-based position in South Woodford, Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm. Hybrid working is not available.
