How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We're recruiting for a Store Manager to lead a specialist fishing and angling store in Reading. This is an opportunity to combine your management experience with a genuine passion for fishing, taking responsibility for store performance, team development and customer experience.

You don't need previous experience in an angling shop. Your management background could be in retail, hospitality, restaurants, pubs, food service, leisure or another customer-focused industry. What matters is your ability to lead people, drive commercial results and understand what makes a business successful.

If you're a keen angler looking for a new career challenge, this could be the perfect opportunity to turn your passion into your profession.

    What's on Offer?

    £35,000 annual salary

    Up to 40% staff discount

    Permanent, full-time position

Responsibility for leading a team and managing store performance

The opportunity to work in a specialist retail environment built around your interest in fishing

The chance to apply your existing management skills in a new industry

    The Role

As Store Manager, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day running of the Reading store, leading your team to deliver excellent customer service, achieve sales targets and maintain high operational standards.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Team Leadership: Lead, motivate and develop colleagues, creating a positive and productive working environment.

Sales & Performance: Take ownership of store sales, KPIs and commercial performance, identifying opportunities to improve results.

Customer Experience: Ensure customers receive excellent service, helpful advice and an engaging shopping experience.

People Management: Support recruitment, training, colleague development and performance management.

Store Operations: Oversee rotas, administration, stock control, deliveries and health and safety.

Store Standards: Maintain high standards of presentation, merchandising and organisation.

Customer Relationships: Build rapport with customers, understand their needs and encourage repeat business.

Business Improvement: Work proactively to identify opportunities to grow sales and improve the overall performance of the store.

    About You

We're looking for a commercially minded, people-focused manager who enjoys taking responsibility and has a genuine enthusiasm for fishing or angling.

    You'll ideally have:

Experience managing or supervising a team in retail, hospitality, leisure, food service or a similar customer-facing environment.

Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate people and manage performance.

Commercial awareness and experience working towards sales targets, budgets or business KPIs.

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

A genuine interest in fishing or angling, whether that's carp fishing, coarse fishing, match fishing, lure fishing, sea fishing or another discipline.

You don't need to have worked in fishing retail before. We're open to experienced Store Managers, Assistant Managers, Deputy Managers, General Managers and hospitality managers who can demonstrate the right transferable skills.

Your management experience will help you run the business. Your passion for fishing will help you connect with the customers.
