How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Deputy Manager / Unit Manager – Nurse Qualified
    Location: Leeds
    Salary: £54K
    Contract: Full-time, permanent
    The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced, nurse-qualified Deputy Manager / Unit Manager to take responsibility for a 30-bed elderly general nursing unit within a large, well-established care home in Leeds.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident clinical leader who enjoys taking ownership of their own unit, developing their team and ensuring residents receive high-quality, person-centred care.

You will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the unit, supported by an experienced Registered Manager and Clinical Services Manager who oversee the wider home and provide additional clinical and operational support.
The home benefits from established support teams, including admissions, finance and administration, allowing you to focus on clinical leadership, staff development and maintaining high standards of care.

    The Role
You will take ownership of your own 30-bed unit, leading the nursing and care team and ensuring the service runs safely, efficiently and effectively.
    Your responsibilities will include:
Overseeing the day-to-day running of the unit and ensuring high standards of elderly general nursing care.
Leading, motivating and supporting the nursing and care team, promoting a positive and supportive working environment.
Acting as Nurse in Charge on designated shifts and providing strong clinical leadership when required.
Supporting and developing staff through supervision, guidance and ongoing performance management.
Conducting supervisions for Senior Carers and Care Assistants.
Supporting clinical governance, ensuring care plans, medication management, risk assessments and relevant documentation remain up to date.
Completing clinical audits and other quality assurance activities during supernumerary days.
Communicating effectively with the Registered Manager, Clinical Services Manager and wider management team.
Building positive relationships with residents, relatives and healthcare professionals.
Bringing personality and a positive presence to the unit, creating an approachable and welcoming environment for residents and staff.
Working collaboratively with the wider home to maintain compliance and deliver consistently high-quality care.
The Registered Manager retains responsibility for wider home management, including CQC matters and safeguarding, with support from the Clinical Services Manager.
You will also benefit from dedicated admissions, finance and administrative teams, helping reduce the administrative burden on the unit.

    Working Pattern
The role operates on a Monday-to-Sunday rota, offering a combination of Nurse in Charge shifts and supernumerary management days.
Nurse in Charge shifts: Three long shifts as part of your rota.
Supernumerary days: Every Wednesday, 10am–6pm, working in the office.
Weekend working: The rota is designed to provide flexibility around weekend cover. Where you are scheduled to take Nurse in Charge responsibility over a weekend, your other shifts will be arranged accordingly. Weekend working may be required when necessary to meet the needs of the service.
Uniform: Supernumerary office days are non-uniform days. Floor-based work is not routinely expected on these days, although occasional clinical support may be required depending on the needs of the unit.
The unit has operated without routine weekend working for the past 18 months, but the service needs a flexible manager who can support weekend cover when required.
Supernumerary days are fixed and office-based, rather than working-from-home days.

    Staffing and Support
You will lead an established team supporting 30 residents.
    The unit's staffing structure includes:
    Morning shift: Seven staff.
    Afternoon shift: Seven staff.
    Night shift: Four staff.
The nursing and care team includes a nurse, Senior Carers and Care Assistants. Catering, administration, housekeeping and other support services are provided separately.
You will have the support of an experienced Registered Manager and Clinical Services Manager, alongside dedicated admissions, finance and administration teams.
The wider management team holds regular meetings to review performance, operational priorities and the needs of the service.

    About You

We are keen to speak with nurse-qualified professionals who have strong clinical skills and experience within elderly general nursing.

You may currently be working as a Deputy Manager, Unit Manager, Clinical Lead, Senior Nurse or an experienced Nurse in Charge looking for the next step in your career.

    You will ideally have:
    An active NMC PIN.
    Experience in elderly general nursing.
Strong clinical knowledge and confidence in managing clinical situations.
Experience leading, supporting and developing nursing and care teams.
A good understanding of clinical governance, care planning, medication management and audits.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff and senior management.
A flexible, organised and proactive approach to leadership.
The ability to take ownership of a unit while recognising when to seek support.
A warm, approachable and personable leadership style.
Most importantly, you will be someone who enjoys making a difference, takes pride in their unit and can bring their own personality to the service.

    What's on Offer?
    Full-time, permanent employment.
Responsibility for your own 30-bed unit.
A supportive and established senior management team.
Dedicated administrative, admissions and finance support.
    Fixed weekly supernumerary office time.
Opportunities to develop your leadership skills and progress your career.
The opportunity to shape the culture of your unit and make a meaningful difference to residents and staff.
