How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Help us to make a world of difference

Urenco is a global leader in the production of low-carbon energy, playing a critical role in delivering secure, reliable nuclear fuel solutions worldwide. We are focused on enabling the sustainable generation of electricity for customers around the world while operating to the highest environmental, social, and regulatory standards.

In addition, as part of a strategically important industry, Urenco is now required to support the UK Government in exploring options to re-establish nuclear fuel capabilities to produce reactor fuel for defence purposes.

To support this new project, we are seeking an R&D Manager to join our Capenhurst site. In this role, you will work within our Government Services function as a key interface between site teams and Group stakeholders to ensure effective planning, coordination, and delivery across complex programmes.

At Urenco, we're committed to helping you be your best. If you feel you meet some, but not all, of what we're looking for, we still encourage you to apply. We believe in embracing the passion and potential of our people and offer market-leading training, development, coaching, and mentoring opportunities from some of the brightest minds in the industry.

    About the Role

As an R&D Manager, you will play a leading role in the development of UF6-related technology and knowledge ensuring the safe, compliant, and cost-effective design and operation of facilities.

You will be responsible for managing R&D activities and projects, building and leading a specialist team, and supervising dedicated R&D facilities and infrastructure. Acting as a technical authority in your field, you will collaborate with stakeholders and support the delivery of strategic technology development programmes.

    What You'll Do

    Lead Technology Development

Act as a subject matter expert for UF6-related technologies, providing technical guidance.
Lead technology assessments and evaluate Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) to support project delivery and strategic decision-making.
Identify opportunities to improve plant performance, operational efficiency, and technical capability.
    Deliver R&D Projects

Plan, mobilise, and deliver R&D and qualification programmes in line with agreed scope, budgets, schedules, and customer requirements.
Conduct technical assessments and provide recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Document, communicate, and hand over project outcomes to customers and key stakeholders.
    Build Capability & Innovation

Support the development of UF6 technology knowledge and R&D capabilities.
Monitor emerging technologies and assess their relevance and application.

Provide technical expertise during supplier assessments and audits.
Ensure R&D activities are conducted safely and in compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.
    Lead & Develop the Team

Lead and develop a small specialist team.
Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing working environment.
Support the ongoing development of people, processes, and technical capabilities.
What Do You Need to Thrive in This Role?

    Qualifications

    Essential

Master's degree, or equivalent qualification, in Mechanical Engineering.
    Experience

Experience within the heavy process, chemical, or nuclear industries, ideally within a highly regulated environment.
Proven experience delivering R&D or qualification programmes, including planning, budgeting, execution, and reporting.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing projects across international organisations.
Experience evaluating and selecting technologies to meet technical, commercial, and customer requirements.
Track record of developing R&D capabilities, including people, processes, technology, and external partnerships.
    Technical & Leadership Capability

Strong knowledge of UF6 processing and vacuum technologies.
Project and programme management expertise, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.
Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to lead, develop, and motivate high-performing teams.
Proficiency in English; German or Dutch language skills would be advantageous.
    Behavioural Attributes

    Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
Passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
Commitment to safety, integrity, and inclusion.
Strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term objectives and operational priorities.
What Can You Expect From Us?

More than just a job, we offer a future. More than just a place to work, we provide an opportunity to prosper.

As a valued member of our team, you will receive:

Generous Annual Leave: Starting at 25 days, increasing by one day every two years (up to 30 days), plus 13 additional flexible days. Option to buy or sell up to 5 holiday days.
Family-Friendly Policies: A wide range of policies to support work-life balance and family needs.
