How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer to join a growing and well-established specialist supplier to the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) sector, based in Northfleet.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded individual with experience in mechanical design, building services or MEP engineering to join a supportive business with an expanding engineering division.

Working closely with internal teams, customers and external manufacturing partners, you will play a key role in developing practical engineering solutions, producing technical drawings and coordinating projects from initial enquiry through to manufacture and delivery.

This is a technically focused position rather than a sales role, offering the opportunity to utilise your design knowledge, problem-solving abilities and project coordination skills within a varied and hands-on environment.

    Key Responsibilities
    - Produce, develop and modify technical engineering drawings using SolidWorks and other relevant CAD software.
    - Interpret customer specifications, technical requirements and engineering drawings to develop practical design solutions.
    - Provide technical support to internal sales teams on engineering enquiries and project requirements.
    - Liaise with external CAD designers, fabrication partners and suppliers to coordinate design and manufacturing activities.
    - Review technical drawings to ensure accuracy, functionality and suitability for manufacture and installation.
    - Manage the design approval process, ensuring drawings and specifications meet project requirements.
    - Coordinate multiple engineering projects, monitoring progress and ensuring deadlines are achieved.
    - Identify potential design or manufacturing challenges and recommend effective solutions.
    - Maintain accurate technical documentation, drawings and project records.
    - Support occasional site visits to assess technical requirements and provide engineering input.
    - Act as a key technical point of contact for internal departments, suppliers and customers.

    Skills & Experience Required
    - Previous experience in a Technical Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, CAD Engineer, MEP Engineer or similar technical role.
    - Background in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, M&E installations or a related engineering discipline.
    - Experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Revit or similar design software.
    - Ability to read, interpret and produce detailed technical and engineering drawings.
    - Good understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
    - Strong attention to detail with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
    - Excellent communication and organisational skills.
    - Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

    Desirable Experience:
    - Knowledge of pipework systems, mechanical supports, bracketry or associated building services components.
    - Experience working with fabrication suppliers or subcontract manufacturing partners.
    - Understanding of mechanical installations and the practical considerations involved in manufacturing and installation.
    - Previous experience coordinating technical projects from concept through to completion.

    What's on Offer?
    - Salary of £40,000 - £45,000, depending on experience.
    - Monday to Friday working hours, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
    - Permanent, full-time position.
    - Free on-site parking.
    - Excellent public transport links.
    - Complimentary refreshments and occasional team lunches.
    - Staff incentives and recognition schemes.
    - Supportive, stable and collaborative working environment.
    - Opportunity for professional development and career progression within a growing engineering division
