How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

CDM Principal Designer / Health & Safety Consultant required to join a multidisciplinary consultancy, based in Leeds.

Working across the retail, manufacturing and warehousing sectors, you will be involved in projects from the early design and pre-construction stages through to construction, helping clients, designers and contractors manage health and safety risks effectively throughout the project lifecycle.

The role will combine Principal Designer and CDM advisory responsibilities with site-based health and safety audits and inspections. You will work closely with clients and project teams to promote best practice, ensure compliance and support the safe delivery of construction projects nationwide.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Deliver CDM advisory and Principal Designer duties in accordance with CDM 2015, supporting projects from early client engagement and the pre-construction phase through to construction.

    * Assist with the preparation, review and development of pre-construction information and Construction Phase Plans (CPPs).

    * Support the coordination of design risk management, identifying and managing foreseeable health and safety risks throughout the design and construction process.

    * Liaise with clients, designers, principal contractors and other project stakeholders to ensure their CDM responsibilities are understood and fulfilled.

    * Undertake health and safety audits, site inspections and compliance reviews across a variety of construction projects.

    * Identify areas of non-compliance, provide practical recommendations and monitor corrective actions where required.

    * Provide competent health and safety advice to clients, contractors and project teams.

    * Prepare clear and accurate reports, risk management documentation and project health and safety records.

    * Manage multiple projects and client relationships, ensuring work is delivered professionally, efficiently and to a high standard.

The role will involve site visits, client meetings and nationwide travel, with attendance being required in the consultancy’s Leeds office two to three days per week.

Therefore, candidates based in Leeds or the surrounding areas, or within a reasonable commuting distance, would be ideally suited to the role.

    Experience

    You will ideally have:

    * A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in construction health and safety, CDM consultancy or a similar role.

    * Experience assisting a Principal Designer and a good understanding of the duties and responsibilities associated with the role.

    * A sound working knowledge of CDM 2015 and the wider UK construction health and safety framework.

    * Experience undertaking health and safety audits, site inspections and compliance assessments.

    * An understanding of pre-construction information, Construction Phase Plans, design risk management and construction project documentation.

    * Experience working across commercial or industrial environments, ideally including retail, manufacturing and warehousing.

    * Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients, designers and contractors.

    * The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and provide practical, proportionate health and safety advice.

    * A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide.

    Qualifications

Relevant health and safety qualifications, such as NEBOSH National General Certificate or Construction Certificate, alongside membership of IOSH or APS, would be advantageous.

The role is paying a salary of £45,000–£50,000 plus car allowance
