How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

The Design Engineer position is available in Basingstoke for our client, an established engineering and manufacturing business specialising in valve products. The company is currently undertaking a refresh of its branding, marketing materials and technical documentation, creating a requirement for someone to update and modernise its existing engineering drawings.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or junior engineer looking to develop their CAD skills within an established manufacturing business. The role will involve working with existing drawings and technical data, ensuring documentation is accurate, up to date and suitable for use across the business.

    Design Engineer Job Overview

Updating and refreshing existing 2D engineering drawings to reflect current requirements and improve their presentation.

Working with existing technical data to amend and maintain drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Reviewing older engineering drawings and documentation to ensure information is accurate and consistent.

Supporting a wider project to modernise technical information used across the business, including customer-facing drawings.

Working with colleagues across engineering, marketing and other departments to support the company's ongoing development.

Helping organise and maintain technical documentation to improve its usability and presentation.

    Design Engineer Job Requirements

An engineering qualification, such as an HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience using CAD software, ideally Solid Edge for 2D drawings.

Candidates with experience in SolidWorks or other CAD packages will also be considered.

A good understanding of engineering drawings and the ability to interpret technical information.

A methodical approach, with good attention to detail and the ability to work through existing documentation systematically.

Graduates and candidates looking for their first engineering role are encouraged to apply.

Previous experience within the valve industry would be advantageous, particularly for candidates seeking a permanent position.

    Design Engineer Salary & Benefits

    Salary of £29,000 - £30,000.

25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.

    Company pension scheme.

    Life insurance.

    Free on-site parking.

    Regular bonuses based on delivery.

Hybrid working, typically two days in the office.

The opportunity to develop within the business, with potential to progress into other departments over time.

The position is available as a six-month contract, with the possibility of moving into a permanent role. Permanent employment may also be considered for candidates with relevant valve industry experience.
