How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Love working with numbers, spotting discrepancies and turning complex data into meaningful insights? This could be the opportunity for you.

Global Highland is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client for a detail-oriented and analytical Energy Billing & Compliance Assistant to join a growing team within the energy sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a finance, accounting, billing or analytical background who enjoys working with financial data, investigating variances and ensuring figures are accurate, processes are robust and regulatory requirements are met.

You’ll play an important role in the accuracy of energy billing and the smooth running of essential compliance processes. From reviewing consumption data and investigating billing discrepancies to supporting tariff updates, reconciliations and regulatory reporting, your work will help ensure customers are billed correctly and the business operates with confidence.

If you’re naturally curious, enjoy getting to the bottom of the numbers and take pride in producing accurate, reliable work, this could be an exciting next step in your career.

    The opportunity

Working at the intersection of finance, data and regulatory compliance, you’ll support the delivery of accurate electricity billing while helping maintain the controls, records and processes that underpin a well-managed energy supply business.

You’ll work with a range of financial and operational information, identifying anomalies, investigating discrepancies and helping resolve issues before they become bigger problems. Alongside the billing responsibilities, you’ll contribute to compliance monitoring, audit preparation and process improvement.

This role would suit someone who enjoys detail-focused work, takes a structured approach to problem-solving and wants to apply their analytical skills in a specialist industry where accuracy really matters.

    What you’ll be doing

    Billing, financial data & analysis

Assist with the preparation and delivery of monthly non-domestic electricity bills, ensuring customer accounts are accurate and complete.

Review meter readings, consumption data, tariffs, standing charges, taxes and account details to identify discrepancies and investigate unusual results.

Support the weekly setting and updating of domestic electricity tariffs, ensuring the relevant information is accurate and applied correctly.

Complete billing reconciliations, analyse variances and prepare exception reports, highlighting errors and recurring issues for investigation.

Support customer account activity, including onboarding, changes of tenancy, contract amendments, account closures and final billing.

Help maintain accurate billing records and contribute to improvements in data quality, controls and operational processes.

    Compliance, controls & reporting

Support routine monitoring of applicable electricity supply licence conditions, consumer protection requirements, data protection obligations and internal policies.

Assist with regulatory submissions, information requests, audits and assurance reviews by gathering accurate information and maintaining clear audit trails.

Maintain compliance registers, supporting evidence, procedural documents and action trackers.

Monitor key deadlines, follow up with relevant colleagues and help ensure actions are completed on time.

Record incidents, potential breaches, complaints and corrective actions, escalating concerns in line with established procedures.

Help ensure customer communications, billing templates and operational processes remain aligned with approved requirements.

    Team & operational support

Work collaboratively with colleagues to resolve billing queries and improve the accuracy and efficiency of day-to-day processes.

Provide administrative support across billing, reporting and compliance activities.

Identify opportunities to strengthen procedures, improve consistency and reduce avoidable errors.

Take ownership of assigned tasks, maintaining high standards of accuracy, organisation and confidentiality.

    What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with data and has the patience, curiosity and analytical mindset to investigate the detail behind the numbers.

You could come from a finance, accounts, purchase ledger, sales ledger, billing, reconciliation, data analysis, financial or administration background. The most important thing is to have a strong analytical foundation and willingness to learn.

    Ideally, you’ll bring:

Experience working with financial data, numerical information, reconciliations or detailed account records.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify discrepancies, investigate variances and understand why figures may not balance.

Excellent attention to detail, with a methodical approach to checking information and maintaining data accuracy.

Good numerical skills and the confidence to work with tariffs, charges, consumption figures and financial calculations.

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.

Good IT skills and confidence using spreadsheets, databases or business systems to analyse and maintain information.

A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to ask questions, investigate issues and escalate concerns when necessary.

Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different functions.

A responsible approach to handling confidential information and following established procedures.

You don’t need to know everything about the energy industry from day one. What matters most is your ability to work accurately with data, think analytically and take pride in getting things right.

    Why consider this opportunity?

Put your analytical skills to work: Apply your finance and data expertise to meaningful, detail-focused responsibilities.

Develop specialist industry knowledge: Build experience in electricity billing, tariff management and regulatory compliance.

Broaden your career: Gain exposure to financial controls, reconciliations, audit processes and regulatory reporting.

Make a tangible difference: Help improve billing accuracy, identify potential issues and support a reliable customer experience.

Expand your skill set: Develop valuable expertise at the intersection of finance, data and the energy sector.

Be part of a growing industry: Join a business operating in an essential sector where accurate data and effective processes are fundamental.

Ready to take the next step?

If you’re analytical, detail-focused and passionate about working with financial data, this is an opportunity to build your expertise in a specialist area of the energy industry
