How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Client
Our client is a well-established construction contractor based in Suffolk, delivering a range of projects across the region.
With a strong reputation for quality workmanship, reliable delivery and long-standing client relationships, the business is looking to appoint an experienced General Manager to oversee its day-to-day construction operations.
This is a key appointment within the company, offering the opportunity to work directly alongside the Managing Director and take responsibility for the successful management and delivery of projects across the business.
    The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager, Quantity Surveyor or commercially minded construction professional looking to step into a broader general management position.
Working directly beneath the Managing Director, you will take responsibility for overseeing the company's workload, from initial client enquiries and pricing through to programming, procurement, project delivery and final account.
The role will involve managing multiple projects simultaneously, with experienced Site Foremen responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities on individual sites.
The successful candidate will provide the link between clients, site teams, subcontractors and the Managing Director, ensuring that projects are properly planned, commercially controlled and delivered to the required standards.
This is a varied, hands-on management position that would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of the wider construction process rather than focusing exclusively on either commercial or operational responsibilities.
    Responsibilities
    *
Overseeing the day-to-day construction operations of the business
    *
Managing multiple projects from initial enquiry through to completion
    *
Acting as a key point of contact for clients and maintaining strong working relationships
    *
Preparing estimates, quotations and pricing submissions for new projects
    *
    Producing and monitoring construction programmes
    *
Overseeing Site Foremen and ensuring works progress in line with programme requirements
    *
Managing subcontractor procurement, appointments and coordination
    *
Monitoring project budgets, costs, variations and commercial performance
    *
Supporting contract administration, valuations and final accounts
    *
Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and consultants
    *
Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards
    *
Identifying and resolving operational and commercial issues
    *
Working closely with the Managing Director on workload planning, resource allocation and wider business performance
    Qualifications & Experience
    *
Previous experience as a Contracts Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager or similar senior construction professional
    *
Strong understanding of both the commercial and operational aspects of construction
    *
Experience managing multiple projects and coordinating site teams
    *
Ability to prepare estimates, quotations and project budgets
    *
Good understanding of construction programming, procurement and contract administration
    *
Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
    *
Excellent client-facing communication and relationship management abilities
    *
Confident managing Site Foremen, subcontractors and wider project teams
    *
Highly organised, proactive and capable of working independently
    *
    Full UK driving licence required
    What to do next
If you're an experienced construction professional looking for a senior management position offering genuine autonomy, responsibility and the opportunity to work closely with the Managing Director of an established contractor, we'd be keen to hear from you.
Please apply today or contact EA Associates for a confidential discussion regarding the opportunity
