How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Electrical Engineer to join an MEP engineering company working on the HS2 project. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring electrical engineer to develop their technical skills and gain valuable experience working on a major infrastructure project.
The successful candidate will support the design, coordination, and delivery of electrical engineering systems, working alongside senior engineers and multidisciplinary project teams. The role will involve assisting with electrical design calculations, drawings, technical documentation, and site-based engineering activities, with opportunities to develop competency in electrical design and project delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation and development of electrical engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and technical specifications.
Support electrical design activities, including cable sizing, load assessments, lighting calculations, containment layouts, and equipment selection.
Prepare and update electrical drawings using CAD and BIM software, such as AutoCAD and Revit.
Assist with reviewing technical documentation, design packages, and engineering specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Support the coordination of electrical designs with mechanical, public health, civil, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
Help identify design clashes, technical issues, and potential improvements during the design development process.
Assist senior engineers with design reviews, technical submissions, and responses to technical queries.
Liaise with site teams and other project stakeholders to support the resolution of design-related issues.
Attend design coordination meetings, site inspections, and technical workshops as required.
Support electrical installation inspections, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
Ensure engineering work is carried out in accordance with relevant British Standards, project specifications, health and safety requirements, and applicable HS2 procedures.
Maintain accurate engineering records, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
Develop knowledge of electrical engineering standards, design practices, and project delivery requirements under the guidance of experienced engineers.

    Requirements

Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
Some experience or knowledge of electrical engineering within an MEP, building services, construction, infrastructure, or rail environment is desirable.
Basic understanding of electrical design principles, calculations, and relevant industry standards.
Familiarity with electrical drawings, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
Basic experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other relevant design software is advantageous.
Willingness to learn electrical design calculations, system layouts, and multidisciplinary coordination processes.
Good communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning and professional development.
Ability to work effectively within a team and take direction from senior engineers.
An interest in major infrastructure and rail projects, with previous HS2 experience desirable but not essential.

    Key Competencies

Foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles.
Strong interest in electrical design and technical engineering development.
Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
Willingness to develop skills in design coordination, software applications, and engineering calculations.
Commitment to quality, health and safety, and professional development.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
