How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Teaching, Learning & Assessment

Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and learner-centred ESOL sessions tailored to Pre-Entry adult learners.
Develop learners’ English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, focusing on practical language for everyday situations.
Create a supportive classroom environment that encourages participation, confidence-building and positive learner relationships.
Adapt teaching methods and resources to accommodate different learning abilities, language levels, cultural backgrounds and individual needs.
Carry out initial and diagnostic assessments to establish learners’ starting points and identify learning priorities.
Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), setting clear and achievable learning objectives.
Monitor, assess and record learner progress, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
Develop accessible and engaging learning materials that support language development and independent learning.
Encourage learners to apply their English skills in real-life situations, helping them build confidence in their communities and daily interactions.
Promote regular attendance, punctuality, learner engagement and positive achievement. Quality, Compliance & Administration

Maintain accurate learner records, assessment documentation and progress reports.
Complete all required administrative tasks in line with organisational, contractual and funding requirements.
Ensure teaching, learning and assessment meet the provider’s quality standards and relevant awarding body requirements.
Contribute to quality assurance, standardisation and continuous improvement activities as required.
Prepare learners for relevant assessments and accredited qualifications where applicable.
Maintain professional boundaries and uphold organisational policies and procedures. Safeguarding & Learner Wellbeing

Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment where all learners feel valued and supported.
Follow safeguarding, Prevent, equality and diversity policies and procedures.
Remain alert to potential safeguarding or wellbeing concerns and report these promptly through the appropriate channels.
Recognise the individual circumstances and potential barriers experienced by adult learners, responding with patience, empathy and professionalism.
Encourage learner confidence, independence and active participation while respecting individual needs and backgrounds. Collaboration & Professional Development

Work collaboratively with colleagues to support learner engagement, achievement and progression.
Identify opportunities to help learners progress into further education, additional training or other appropriate learning opportunities.
Attend relevant tutor meetings, training sessions, CPD and quality assurance activities as required.
Reflect on teaching practice and use feedback to continually improve the learner experience.
Work flexibly within an ongoing sessional arrangement to meet the needs of the provision. Essential Criteria:

Proven experience delivering ESOL teaching to adult learners.
A recognised teaching qualification, such as PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent.
Experience working within adult education, further education or a community learning environment.
Strong understanding of teaching English to learners with little or no prior English language knowledge.
Knowledge of safeguarding, Prevent, equality and diversity.
Ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to different abilities, learning styles and individual needs.
Experience assessing learner progress, maintaining accurate records and setting achievable learning objectives.

A patient, empathetic and inclusive approach to supporting learners from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
Confidence using digital resources and technology to support teaching and learning.
Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider teaching team. Desirable Criteria:

    Experience delivering Pre-Entry ESOL programmes.
Experience supporting female adult learners in community-based education.
Experience working with learners who face barriers to education, including limited English proficiency, low confidence or social isolation.
    Experience delivering accredited ESOL qualifications.
Experience supporting learners with progression into further education, training or employment.
Knowledge of the local community and the barriers that can affect adult participation in education. What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for a motivated, adaptable and learner-focused ESOL Tutor who understands that learning a new language is about more than grammar and vocabulary - it is about confidence, independence and opportunity.
You will be someone who can create a warm and encouraging classroom atmosphere, adapt your approach to individual needs and inspire learners to recognise their own progress.
