How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Location:  Smallbrook School, Shrewsbury, SY4 3HE
Hours:      20 hours per week | Monday–Friday | Flexible Hours available (to be discussed at Interview)
Salary:      £11,660 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract:  Permanent | Term Time Only
    Start:         October 2026

    About the Role

Looking for a permanent part-time role that offers flexibility around your other commitments?

At Smallbrook School, we’re looking for an experienced and reliable Domestic Cleaner to join our friendly team and help us maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for our students and colleagues.

Working 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible working hours available to be discussed at interview, this could be a great opportunity if you’re looking for a role that offers a better balance around your home life or other commitments.

Your work may happen behind the scenes, but its impact is felt throughout the school. By ensuring classrooms, communal areas and other spaces are clean, comfortable and ready to use, you’ll help create an environment where children and young people can feel safe, settled and ready to learn.

If you have previous school cleaning experience, take pride in maintaining high standards and are looking for a role within a supportive school community, we’d love to hear from you.

    What you will be doing

Maintain high standards of cleanliness across classrooms, offices, communal areas and other allocated spaces.

Carry out daily cleaning including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sanitising and waste disposal.

Ensure school spaces are clean, hygienic, welcoming and ready for students and colleagues to use.

Follow agreed cleaning schedules and Health & Safety procedures.

Use cleaning equipment and materials safely and appropriately.

Help maintain a healthy and safe environment for children and young people.

Identify and report maintenance issues, hazards or Health & Safety concerns promptly.

Work collaboratively with the wider school and facilities team to maintain consistently high standards.

    What you will bring

    We’re looking for someone who:

Has previous cleaning experience within a school environment – essential.

Holds a Full UK Driving Licence – essential.

Takes genuine pride in maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness.

Is reliable, organised and able to manage their workload efficiently.

Has a positive, practical and proactive approach.

Can work independently as well as being part of a supportive team.

Understands the importance of maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for children and young people.

    Working Hours & School Holidays

The role is primarily term-time only, with employees also required to work the equivalent of two weeks during school holiday periods. These dates will be agreed in advance, and there may be the opportunity to work longer shifts during these periods – for example, 9am–5pm – allowing contracted hours to be completed over fewer days.

Your usual 20 hours per week are flexible, with the working pattern to be discussed and agreed at interview.
