Are you looking for a chance to take ownership of how complex electronic hardware is tested, proven and made reliable, from prototype through to volume production?
We’re looking for an Electronics Engineer with a flair for test, debug and reliability, for a client of ours growing their engineering team in Cambridge. This role sits at the point where design meets reality. You’ll help bring new PCB designs to life, prove they perform, and build the test strategies and tooling that keep quality high from first prototype through to volume build and beyond. One day you might be tracking down an intermittent fault on a board packed with FPGA, embedded processing and mixed analogue/digital/power circuitry; the next you might be specifying an automated test platform or shaping a design so it’s easier to test and build. You’ll work closely with design, manufacturing and quality colleagues, with real influence over how products are engineered, and the chance to build bespoke test solutions rather than just run someone else’s.
What You’ll Bring
A solid grounding in analogue, digital, power and embedded electronics, and the confidence to read complex schematics and work out how a design should behave
Hands-on ability to find and fix faults down to component level, using a methodical, evidence-led approach
Experience running formal root cause investigations with a recognised problem-solving framework (8D or similar), and writing them up clearly
Fluency with a full bench of lab kit: scopes, logic analysers, spectrum analysers, supplies, meters and signal sources
Practical skills in soldering, rework, board modification and prototype build
A good understanding of PCB/PCBA manufacturing, including design for manufacture and design for test
Experience using scripting or automation to make testing faster, more repeatable and more data-driven
Strong planning and prioritisation, able to juggle several workstreams and hit deadlines without cutting corners
Clear communication with designers, production teams, suppliers and customers
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in electronics design, development, test or manufacturing
An HNC/HND, degree or higher in electronic engineering (or a related discipline)Also Valued
Experience writing specifications for automated test equipment or custom test fixtures
Experience qualifying and bringing in new third-party test tools or equipment
A natural curiosity and appetite to keep learning new technologies and techniquesIf you want to own the “does it actually work?” question for sophisticated hardware, and see your improvements make a visible difference to product quality, this could be the role for you.
