How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Business Development Manager

    Equipment Hire

£45,000–£55,000 plus uncapped commission and company car

Cardiff, South Wales – hybrid and field-based, with regular travel throughout the territory

Are you a commercially driven sales professional with experience in equipment hire, temporary power, plant hire or technical industrial products?

    Company Overview

An established equipment rental business providing temporary power, generator hire, battery storage, tooling and technical hire solutions to construction and industrial customers.

Continued investment in its specialist hire division has created a requirement for a Business Development Manager to win new accounts and accelerate regional sales growth.

The business supports customers across construction, utilities, manufacturing, engineering and wider industrial markets. It offers a broad rental fleet, strong technical support and a service-led approach focused on delivering safe and commercially effective solutions

    The Role

The Business Development Manager will win new business, develop existing accounts and identify opportunities across a national sales territory. Working alongside sales, operations and technical colleagues, the successful candidate will provide commercially appropriate equipment-hire solutions while building a sustainable pipeline of profitable business.

    Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage a territory sales plan to achieve revenue and new-business targets.
Identify, approach and secure new customers across relevant industrial and construction markets.
Grow existing accounts through effective relationship management, cross-selling and upselling.
Manage the sales process from initial enquiry through to quotation and operational handover.
Conduct customer meetings and site visits to understand technical and commercial requirements.
Promote a broad range of equipment rental, temporary-power and associated hire solutions.
Maintain an accurate pipeline of qualified sales opportunities.
Work closely with internal sales, technical and operational teams on customer requirements.
Provide ongoing account management to encourage customer retention and repeat revenue.
    Person Specification

Experience in field sales, business development, account management or technical sales.
A record of generating new business and developing existing customer accounts.
Experience selling into construction, utilities, manufacturing, engineering, industrial or related markets.
Candidates from equipment rental, plant hire, tool hire, powered access, generator hire, temporary power or similar sectors would be particularly relevant.
Commercially focused, self-motivated and comfortable managing a territory independently.
Strong communication, relationship-building and negotiation skills.
Able to understand customers’ operational requirements and coordinate suitable solutions.
Based in South Wales or South-West and willing to travel nationally.
    Full UK driving licence.
Direct experience in temporary power or specialist equipment rental would be advantageous but is not essential. Applications are welcomed from commercially successful field sales professionals working in related technical or industrial markets.

    Benefits

    £45,000–£55,000 basic salary.
    Uncapped commission scheme.
    Company car.
    Pension and private healthcare.
    25 days’ annual leave.
    Enhanced family-friendly benefits.
    Flexible field-based working.
    Comprehensive training and ongoing development.
Career progression within a growing international organisation.
    Apply

Applications are welcomed from Business Development Managers, Technical Sales Managers, Area Sales Managers, Field Sales Executives and Account Managers with experience in equipment hire or related industrial markets
