How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in 3D CAD, mechanical design and product development?

Do you enjoy taking a product from initial customer requirements through to detailed design, manufacture and installation?

We're supporting a leading aerospace manufacturing business in Fareham who are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Engineering team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics or pressure systems who enjoys combining hands-on design work with technical problem-solving and working closely with manufacturing teams.

    What's the role all about?

As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing and developing engineered products from initial customer specifications through to manufacture and installation.

You'll use 3D CAD software to produce detailed models and manufacturing drawings, carry out engineering calculations and ensure designs meet the required performance and quality standards.

Working closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Quality and Purchasing, you'll play an important role in making sure products are designed correctly, are practical to manufacture and meet customer requirements.

This is a varied position where you'll have the opportunity to get involved in the full design process rather than simply producing drawings.

    What will you be doing?

Design and develop mechanical products from initial customer specifications through to manufacture

Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical specifications

Analyse customer requirements and develop practical engineering solutions

Carry out detailed design calculations to ensure product integrity and performance

Apply Right First Time Design principles throughout the engineering process

Conduct and participate in technical design reviews

Ensure Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles are considered throughout product development

Identify opportunities for Value Engineering and design improvements

Produce technical reports and supporting engineering documentation

Provide technical support to internal Sales teams and external customers

Work closely with Manufacturing and Quality to resolve technical design queries

Liaise with Purchasing, Planning and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle

Ensure designs meet customer specifications and required engineering standards

Support products through manufacture and installation
    What do you need?

    We're looking for someone with:

Degree or HNC in Mechanical Engineering

A minimum of 2 years' relevant Mechanical Engineering experience

Previous experience within a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar design-focused position

Strong experience using 3D CAD software

Knowledge of fluid mechanics and pressure systems

Ability to produce detailed engineering drawings and 3D models

Good understanding of mechanical engineering calculations

    Strong technical problem-solving skills

Ability to interpret customer specifications and translate them into engineering designs

Good communication skills and the ability to work across multiple departments
Experience using Autodesk Inventor would be particularly beneficial.

    Desirable

It would also be beneficial if you have:

Previous experience within aerospace or precision engineering

Experience designing products involving fluid flow or pressure systems

Knowledge of Design for Manufacture and Value Engineering

Experience using MathCAD or TK Solver

    Familiarity with Microsoft Project

Experience supporting products from concept through to manufacture

Previous experience working directly with customers on technical requirements
    About you

You'll be someone who enjoys the technical side of engineering and takes pride in producing accurate, practical designs.

    You'll be:

    Analytical and technically minded

    Detail-focused

    A confident problem solver

    Organised and methodical

    Comfortable working independently

Collaborative when working with other departments

    Proactive in identifying design improvements

Keen to develop your engineering knowledge
Most importantly, you'll understand that good engineering design isn't just about producing a drawing – it's about creating a product that meets customer requirements, performs as expected and can be manufactured efficiently.

    Why join?

This is an opportunity to join an established aerospace manufacturing business where you'll be involved in the complete product design process.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers and collaborate with teams across Manufacturing, Quality, Sales and Purchasing, giving you exposure to both the technical and commercial aspects of engineering.

With a focus on Right First Time Design, you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills while contributing to technically challenging engineering projects.

    The details

    Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

    Location: Fareham

    Interested?
