Technical Support Engineer – Survey & Positioning Systems
Location: Near Camberley, Surrey
Understand survey technology and enjoy helping people solve technical problems?
We’re recruiting for a specialist technology business looking for a customer-focused Technical Support Engineer. This opportunity would suit someone with a background in surveying, positioning systems or offshore engineering who enjoys troubleshooting, explaining technical concepts and helping customers get the best from their equipment.
You could already be working in technical support, or be a survey professional with hands-on equipment experience looking to take your career in a more customer-focused technical direction.
The opportunity
You’ll help customers resolve queries about specialist measurement, navigation and positioning technology. Working with colleagues across technical and commercial teams, you’ll investigate issues, provide practical guidance and ensure more complex questions reach the right specialists.
Alongside day-to-day support, you’ll turn technical knowledge into useful guidance and share customer feedback to help improve products and their application.
What you’ll be doing
*
Acting as an initial technical contact for customers seeking help with equipment, software and system performance.
*
Gathering information about operational issues, assessing potential causes and advising on next steps.
*
Coordinating with engineering and testing colleagues when queries require further investigation.
*
Producing clear troubleshooting guidance, application notes and other customer-facing technical content.
*
Building your understanding of product capabilities and how customers use them in different environments.
*
Sharing practical insights with colleagues involved in training, sales and customer service.
*
Contributing technical knowledge to industry events, presentations and publications where required.
What you’ll bring
*
Experience supporting users of technical equipment within a survey or offshore engineering setting.
*
A practical approach to fault-finding and an interest in understanding how systems work.
*
Confidence communicating with customers and explaining technical information clearly.
*
The ability to write accurate, useful technical documentation.
*
A qualification in hydrographic surveying, geomatics, electronics or a related subject—or equivalent practical experience.
*
A collaborative approach and the ability to follow technical enquiries through with colleagues.
Useful additional experience
We’d be particularly interested in experience with positioning or navigation equipment, acoustic measurement technology, inertial navigation systems, or associated survey software.
Time spent working aboard vessels or on offshore installations, particularly in a role involving direct customer contact, would also be valuable.
Why consider this role?
This is an opportunity to combine your practical technical knowledge with customer interaction and problem-solving. You’ll work across a range of applications, develop your understanding of specialist technology and help turn complex questions into clear, workable answers.
Apply with your CV, highlighting the survey, navigation or positioning systems you’ve worked with and your experience supporting customers or operational teams
