Location: Camberley, Surrey
Salary: £40,000 to £50,000
Permanent | Entry-level opportunity
Finishing your PhD and ready to put your research into practice?
We’re recruiting for a technology business seeking a curious, analytical STEM PhD graduate to join its research and engineering team.
This is an opportunity to take the coding, modelling and experimental skills developed during your doctorate and apply them to practical scientific challenges. You’ll investigate complex physical behaviour, develop scientific software and use experimental evidence to help improve future technologies.
No previous commercial experience is required. Your doctoral research, academic projects and practical problem-solving skills will form the basis of your application.
What you’ll be doing
*
Developing Python tools and algorithms to analyse complex datasets.
*
Building numerical models and simulations to investigate physical systems, including fluid behaviour.
*
Comparing simulated results with experimental measurements to understand performance and identify improvements.
*
Investigating how sensors and measurement systems behave in real operating conditions.
*
Working alongside scientists and engineers to turn research findings into practical developments.
*
Communicating your work through technical reports, presentations and clear recommendations.
*
Supporting practical testing, with occasional travel to test locations.
What we’re looking for
This role is particularly suited to someone who has recently completed, or is approaching completion of, a PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering or a related STEM discipline.
You’ll also bring:
*
Strong Python programming skills developed through research or project work.
*
A sound understanding of physical principles and mathematical methods.
*
Knowledge of fluid mechanics gained through your studies or research.
*
Experience analysing data and interpreting complex results.
*
The ability to explain technical findings clearly in writing.
*
An inquisitive approach and the persistence to work through challenging problems.
Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD), numerical simulation, signal processing, sensors, experimental research or C++ would be useful, but you do not need experience in every area.
Why apply?
*
Earn up to £50,000 in your first role after your PhD.
*
Apply your academic expertise to tangible engineering challenges.
*
Build experience across scientific computing, simulation and experimental analysis.
*
Work with technical colleagues across research and engineering.
*
See your findings contribute to the development of real technology.
Interested? Apply with your CV and a brief overview of your PhD research, highlighting your Python experience and any work involving fluid mechanics, modelling or experimental data
