How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Mechanical Project Manager – Data Centres

    Salary: £85,000 + Benefits

    Location: Central London

Our client is looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of mechanical projects within the data centre sector. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and commercially aware professional to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality and client satisfaction.

The successful candidate will manage projects of varying values, taking ownership of the full project lifecycle from technical submittals and design coordination through to procurement, installation, commissioning and final handover. The role will be predominantly site-based, requiring attendance on site five days per week, with occasional travel to the head office.

    Key Responsibilities:

Manage the day-to-day delivery of mechanical projects, ensuring programme milestones, budgets and quality expectations are achieved.

Lead project team meetings, providing direction, motivation and support to improve performance and maintain progress.

Report on project performance, progress, commercial matters and key risks to clients, directors and relevant stakeholders.

Liaise with technical and design teams to ensure drawings and technical submissions are delivered in line with project requirements, identifying any additional costs, programme delays or external factors that could affect delivery.

Coordinate and manage procurement activities, ensuring materials, equipment and resources are available in line with project programmes.

Manage subcontractors and project teams, delegating responsibilities effectively while maintaining strong working relationships.

Oversee mechanical installation and commissioning activities, ensuring work is completed in accordance with specifications and contractual requirements.

Maintain high standards of health and safety throughout all stages of project delivery.

Manage project costs and commercial performance, working closely with the project surveyor to prepare and review monthly PFR reports.

Monitor and control project quality, programme delivery and commercial risks, implementing corrective actions where necessary.

Ensure all project documentation, commissioning records and handover information are completed accurately and submitted on time.

Develop and maintain strong client relationships, delivering a professional, customer-focused service throughout the project lifecycle.

    Experience and Requirements:

Proven experience in a Mechanical Project Manager or similar project delivery role.

Demonstrable experience managing mechanical packages from technical submittal through to installation, commissioning and handover.

Essential experience working on data centre projects.

Strong understanding of mechanical building services, project programmes, procurement, cost control and subcontractor management.

Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, site teams, directors and other stakeholders.

    A proactive, self-motivated approach, with strong problem-solving, decision-making and dispute-resolution abilities.

A client-focused mindset, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.

HNC/HND, BTEC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.

GCSEs or equivalent in English and Mathematics.

    Valid CSCS card.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office is desirable.

Approximately five years of project engineering experience is desirable.

Experience using Asta Powerproject for project programming is desirable.

    The Opportunity:

This role would suit a driven Mechanical Project Manager with proven data centre experience who can confidently lead site-based teams, manage mechanical packages from inception through to completion, and deliver projects to demanding programme, quality, safety and commercial standards.
