How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    What you will be doing:

As a Principal Engineer – Electrical Engineering (Control and Instrumentation), you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of submarine electrical Control and Instrumentation systems. You will work on designing crucial systems for the Dreadnought class submarines, which will replace the Vanguard Class, currently in service with the Royal Navy. Core duties:

Provide evidence and specialist support for qualification, legislative requirements, safety justifications and assurance activities

Identify and rapidly resolve issues across the product lifecycle, including management of resulting change activities

Liaise with internal customers to understand, support and incorporate agreed requirements

Manage external supplier delivery including build, test, change and technical queries.

Provide day to day technical guidance for early learners in the team

Relevant sector experience, with detailed design experience of large-scale Electrical, Electronic, Control and Instrumentation (C&I) systems

Strong knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), instrumentation and engineering design, with practical understanding of the C&I design lifecycle

Ability to review and assess design, equipment and test documentation, including electrical schematics, schedules and signal databases

Experience witnessing and assessing supplier testing and reports, with understanding of equipment delivery and acceptance criteria for facility integration

Demonstrable leadership and communication skills, with good knowledge of requirements and configuration management

    The PMS C&I Team:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Dreadnought programme as a Principal Engineer – Electrical Engineering (Control and Instrumentation). The PMSC&I Team is responsible for the design, integration, assurance and delivery of Control and Instrumentation systems. The team provides specialist engineering support across the system lifecycle, including requirements definition, detailed design, equipment integration, supplier testing, commissioning and assurance. It ensures that Control and Instrumentation systems operate safely, reliably and efficiently, with appropriate monitoring, control, protection and system interfaces. Relocation support may be available for submarine roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
