How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We provide the training, ongoing support and free development opportunities to help you succeed — so you can earn while you learn.

    Bring Your Skills Into Education

We are looking for people who are passionate about children and young people, particularly those with experience in:

    * Sports coaching, football coaching and PE

    * Support Workers

    * Fitness instruction and personal training

    * Youth work, mentoring and community projects

    * Behaviour mentoring and pastoral support

    * Learning support and teaching assistance

    * Outdoor education and activity leadership

    * Holiday camps, after-school clubs and youth programmes

    * Care, residential support or children’s services

    * SEN, SEMH, autism or ADHD support

    * Alternative Provision or inclusion services

    * Drama, dance, performing arts or creative activities

    * Customer-facing, leadership or team-management roles

    * Anyone with confidence, resilience and a genuine desire to support young people

Whether you have worked as a coach, mentor, support worker, instructor, youth leader, teaching assistant or activity leader, you may already have many of the skills schools need.

    What You’ll Do

As a Cover Supervisor, you will support classes when the usual teacher is absent. You will not be expected to plan lessons or be a subject specialist.

    Your role will include:

Taking the register and settling students into the lesson

Following the work and lesson materials provided by the teacher

Supervising classes across different subjects and year groups

Maintaining a safe, calm and positive learning environment

Encouraging pupils to stay focused and complete their work

    Managing behaviour positively and fairly

Building rapport with students while maintaining clear boundaries

Supporting pupils who may need extra reassurance or encouragement

Communicating any concerns to the relevant school staff

Adapting confidently to different schools, classrooms and situations

This is flexible work, with a range of shifts available across local secondary schools.

Why People From Different Backgrounds Thrive

Great Cover Supervisors are not just people with teaching experience. They are people who can connect with young people, motivate them, stay calm under pressure and create a positive environment.

You may already know how to:

    Build rapport quickly

    Communicate instructions clearly

    Manage groups confidently

    Motivate different personalities

    Encourage positive behaviour

    Keep people focused and engaged

Think on your feet and adapt in the moment

    De-escalate challenging situations calmly

    Set clear, consistent boundaries

Create a fun, structured and inclusive environment

These skills transfer brilliantly into a school setting.

We have seen fantastic success from people moving into education from sports, fitness, youth work, care, mentoring, activity leadership and other people-focused roles.

    Full Training and Ongoing Support

We do not simply place you into a school and leave you to it. We give you the tools, confidence and ongoing support needed to thrive in your new role.

Our training is delivered by a qualified and experienced professional who is a trained teacher with a Master’s degree in Education.

    You will have access to:

    * Free induction training to prepare you for the role

    * Free in-person workshops and practical training

    * Free CPD courses and development opportunities

    * Guidance around behaviour management and classroom confidence

    * Ongoing support from our friendly team

    * Opportunities to gain experience across different schools

    * Staff prizes and recognition for those who go above and beyond

Even if you have never worked as a Cover Supervisor before, we will help you develop the skills and confidence to make a real difference.

    What Success Looks Like

Success is not just about getting through a lesson. It can be:

A challenging class settling quickly because you have built positive expectations

A pupil who usually refuses work choosing to complete a task

Keeping a group focused for the full lesson

Supporting a young person who needs reassurance

Building trust with a difficult-to-engage student

Handling a situation calmly and professionally

Helping students feel safe, confident and supported

If you are ready to use your passion for working with young people in a rewarding new role, education could be the next step for you.
