How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Maintenance Engineer – Ex-Forces Encouraged to Apply

    Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire
    Salary: £52,000 + Overtime (1.5x / 2x)
Shift Pattern: Panama Days & Nights – 2 Weekends Off in 4
Benefits: Private Healthcare, Pension, Career Progression & Overtime Opportunities

Are you leaving the Armed Forces or have a military engineering background? Looking for your next challenge in civilian engineering?

We have an excellent opportunity for an ex-Forces Engineer to join a global leader in automated warehousing and logistics technology at their highly automated site in Bradford.

Whether you've worked as a REME Vehicle Mechanic, Avionics Technician, Marine Engineer, Aircraft Technician, Electrical Technician or Mechanical Engineer, your technical experience, fault-finding abilities and disciplined approach to maintenance could make you a great fit for this role.

You don't need previous experience working in an automated warehouse. If you've got a solid engineering background, a willingness to learn and experience maintaining, diagnosing or repairing complex equipment, we'd love to hear from you.

    The Company

Our client is a global specialist in the design, manufacture and maintenance of automated storage and retrieval systems.

With over 20 years of success in the UK and more than 20 sites nationwide, they offer excellent job security, exposure to cutting-edge technology and genuine long-term career opportunities.

Their Bradford site operates some of the latest automated engineering technology, including robotics, conveyor systems and automated shuttle systems.

This opportunity has arisen due to an internal move, demonstrating the progression opportunities available within the business.

For someone transitioning out of the Armed Forces, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop existing engineering skills while gaining experience in a growing civilian industry.

The Role – What Will You Be Doing?

You'll be joining an established engineering team consisting of 7 Maintenance Engineers, 4 Team Leaders and dedicated Automation Assistants.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Fault Finding & Diagnostics: Identifying and resolving electrical and mechanical faults on automated machinery, using the same logical troubleshooting approach developed through military engineering.

Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Carrying out daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks to keep equipment running safely and efficiently.

Mechanical Maintenance: Working with motors, bearings, belts, pumps, valves, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical drive systems.

Electrical Maintenance: Safe isolation, electrical fault finding and replacing faulty components on a like-for-like basis.

Automated Systems: Learning to maintain advanced conveyor systems, robotic equipment and automated shuttle systems.

Continuous Improvement: Supporting engineering projects, equipment reliability improvements and site development.

Maintenance Documentation: Using a company-provided iPad to manage work orders, record maintenance activity and complete engineering reports.

You'll be supported by an experienced engineering team, allowing you to build your knowledge of automation while applying your existing engineering skills.

    What Are We Looking For?

We are particularly interested in speaking with Armed Forces leavers and ex-military engineers who have experience in mechanical, electrical or multi-skilled maintenance.

You could have a background in:

Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME)

    Royal Engineers

Royal Navy Marine Engineering or Weapons Engineering

RAF Aircraft Maintenance, Avionics or Mechanical Engineering

    Army Aviation Engineering

Other military engineering and technical maintenance trades

    The ideal candidate will have:

A recognised engineering qualification gained through military or civilian training.

Hands-on experience maintaining, repairing or fault-finding on mechanical and/or electrical equipment.

A strong understanding of safe working practices and maintenance procedures.

The ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure.

Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude.

A willingness to learn new technology and develop into a multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer.

Experience with automated warehouses, robotics or conveyor systems is advantageous but not essential.

    What's on Offer?

    £52,000 basic salary

Overtime at 1.5x, increasing to 2x on Sundays

Panama shift pattern – days and nights, with 2 weekends off in every 4

    Private healthcare

    Competitive company pension contribution

Cycle to work scheme and additional employee incentives

Opportunities to get involved in engineering improvement projects

Exposure to advanced robotics and automation technology

Career progression across 20+ UK sites

There are also opportunities to progress into Field Service Engineering, Installation, Projects, Engineering Leadership and other technical roles within the wider business.

Why Is This a Good Opportunity for Ex-Forces Engineers?

If you're coming out of the military, finding a civilian engineering role that values your technical experience can be a challenge.

This opportunity allows you to transfer the skills you've already developed in the Forces into a modern, highly automated engineering environment.

You'll be working with complex equipment, following structured maintenance procedures, diagnosing faults and working alongside a close-knit engineering team.

You don't need to have worked in a factory or warehouse before. Your engineering fundamentals, attitude and ability to learn are what matter.

    Interested?

If you're currently serving and planning your transition, or you've already left the Armed Forces and are looking for your next engineering opportunity, we'd be keen to speak with you.

Apply today to find out more about this £52,000 Maintenance Engineer opportunity in Bradford.

ATA is committed to creating a diverse workforce and is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of age, disability, gender, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation
