How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an inspiring and experienced English Teacher ready to take the next step into departmental leadership?

Would you love to join a welcoming independent preparatory school in Wandsworth, leading English while making a lasting difference to pupils in Years 5–8?

-Lead English teaching and enjoy creative enrichment activities
-Free school lunches available (agency staff eligibility to be confirmed)
    -On-site bicycle and scooter storage
-Warm, supportive school community with opportunities to grow
    - Excellent transport links into the school

Martin at Education 365 is delighted to be partnering with a lovely independent preparatory school in Wandsworth to recruit a Temporary Head of English for a full-time maternity cover position from February 2027.

We would love to hear from warm, enthusiastic and accomplished English practitioners who are passionate about excellent teaching, supporting colleagues and helping young people develop a genuine love of reading, writing and language.

As Temporary Head of English, you will lead the department across Years 5–8 while continuing to teach engaging English lessons. You will support curriculum planning, assessment and pupil progress, guide departmental colleagues and help maintain consistently high standards during the maternity cover period.

The school is particularly interested in candidates with strong KS2 English experience, ideally including KS3, and an understanding of preparing pupils for 11+ and 13+ assessments. Experience of leading, mentoring or developing colleagues would be highly valued.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an existing Head of English, or an experienced English Teacher ready to embrace a rewarding leadership role. You should be organised, collaborative, approachable and confident in creating an encouraging environment where every pupil feels supported and challenged.

With a February 2027 start planned, we are speaking with interested candidates now and would be delighted to learn more about your experience, availability and what you are looking for in your next opportunity.

Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing, and the right to work in the UK. Relevant qualifications and successful teaching experience are essential.

If you are looking for an exciting Temporary Head of English opportunity in Wandsworth, please apply today or contact Martin at Education 365 for a warm, friendly and confidential conversation about the role
