Academics is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant for specialist schools across Huddersfield. We welcome applicants with experience in education, care or residential settings; a formal Teaching Assistant qualification is not essential.
The Role… SEN Teaching Assistant
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in Huddersfield, you will provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs. Working alongside teachers and specialist staff, you will adapt activities, encourage engagement and help every pupil make progress at their own pace.
Your responsibilities may include:
Supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and complex communication needs
Helping non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils express their needs and choices
Using PECS, Makaton, visual supports or AAC devices where appropriate
Encouraging emotional regulation, social interaction and independence
Adapting learning activities to individual abilities
Supporting personal care and physical needs where required
Working with teachers, therapists and wider SEN teams
You'll Be…
Experienced in supporting children or young people with additional needs
Patient, resilient and confident building positive relationships
Comfortable supporting pupils with complex communication needs
Familiar with alternative communication approaches, or keen to learn
Adaptable, reliable and passionate about inclusive education
